I’ve been doing Tae Kwon Do for 2 years now and am a Brown Belt Sr, which means I am 4 steps away from a Black Belt. (I’ve completed 7 steps) I don’t think I’ll count this goal completed until I’m a Black Belt.

I’ve been taking boxing every Monday and MMA every Friday, and have only missed a few classes in the past 6 months. I’ve still got a long way to go before I’m as good as most of the people at my gym, but I do notice that I’m improving.
I think to get good I need to go more than twice per week though, which isn’t possible for me right now because I’m dedicating most of my energy to my triathlon goal. After the triathlon’s finished I’ll probably increase my classes at the gym to 3-4 per week.
Don’t get me wrong, for exercise its a good idea. Not me, i don’t box, but my good buddy does and loves it.
But to defend oneself, it is far better to learn how to talk down an opponent, how to diffuse or confuse so you can walk away without you and them getting hurt – that’s the acme of real skill.
I find replaying situations in my mind, working out what i could have said… it takes practice, but is certainly doable and soooo much more manly before my woman than resorting to fisty-cuffs.
I would like to be able to know that if someone tried to hurt me, I would be able to defend myself well, and also to know that I could defend others.
And, it would help to get fitter.
Phalene is always supposed to write an essay.
I’d like to have reasonable confidence in my capacity to hold my own in a screaming arguement, brawl, pitched battle, etc…
jeeterbug works nights so 1125 pm is early morning for me... what to do...
but i’m getting into a boxing program. by myself, though. now if only i’m not too chicken to spar…

“I want to learn to fight, but I dont want to take any stupid classes or anything. Id rather just teach myself. I was wondering if there is an effective way to learn how to fight without the help of someone else.”
