This isn’t in his book but it might as well be. I would put it in the “Private victory” part because it has to do with: be proactive, put first things first, and begin with the end in mind. I explain the origin and the use of making such a list it in one of my goals (the last one on the list).

Its really interesting reading and I posted the seven habits at my office. Now I’m sharing the book with my family, friends and collegues. For the moment I’ve written up my personal mission statement in about 4 pages, I’ve included other sections as well such as
- This is my creed (what I fundamentally believe in and stand for):
- Actions: I am deeply committed to cultivating and promoting the following:
- Motivational Phrases:
- To fulfill this mission I have different roles

..and wondered why I stopped before! It’s totally changing me as I read it, especially as I’m trying to put it into practice as I read. This is just such a powerful book, it’s my Bible at the moment!
One of the best things about it, is that it’s based on no-one in particular’s teaching. The principles that Covey teaches are universal, commonsense things that are (self-evidently in my experience) true. So we don’t have to worry his ideas will suddenly go out of date or won’t work.
I hope everyone who joined me on this goal is doing well. Although his ideas are simple, they are not easy to implement because old habits are hard to break, but the effort is infinitely worth it!

Review and understand your mission statements;
-Each morning when you wake up
-Each night before you sleep
How it relates to your reality(internalise):
-Each morning when you wake up
-Each night before you sleep
Live each commitment by doing the weekly planning based on the mission statements.
We can commit to each statement in every week. Insya Allah.

I’ve made my own mission statements. I’m starting. I know once I commit myself to my principles, things that I’ve planned for would arrive.
Thank God.

I bought the (paper) book a few years ago, and also bought an unabridged audio book just recently from Audible (also available from Amazon).
Covey is not only a good writer, he is also a very good reader and speaker. I enjoy listening to his lectures on lazy sundays like today; it’s entertaining, relaxing and inspiring!

Opening the book, the first thing that strikes me is the quote from David Starr Jordan:—’There is no excellence in all this world which can be separated from right living’.
This means that personal integrity, and living what you believe is really important! What do I really believe in though?
Until I really decide what I believe AND start living it, I don’t really have any kind of integrity at a deep level.
So I need to make a decision about living my belief in God, or continuing to ignore it.
