How I did it: I didn't have to go far at all to see the Northern Lights - just out on the back step. My home is up north of the 53rd parallel, so in the winter months, stepping outdoors at night yeilds a view of green, white and pink lights dancing in the night sky. It's a wonderful sight to behold. How I did it: It was completely by accident, really. I didn't go scouting it out, but i was camping in Merit Valley and I couldn't sleep, so I was planning on going for a walk, and I left the tent and was blown away by the veils of colour rippling across the sky. I dragged out a blanket and lay on it, mesmerized by the shimmering colours. Read how I did it…
How I did it: Living in Duluth, MN, I saw this for years. Just amazing. I took it for granted and now I miss it. Definately worth traveling to see this pure wonder - it will take your breath away. Read how I did it…

How I did it: i saw this on a dark clear night driving home from Wisconsin between Tomah and Eau Claire last summer. It was during a time where the sky was very clear and seeing the borealis was in full view. Beautiful and breathtaking. I'd still like to travel north to a location to see it in its more vibrant and mystical form. Read how I did it…
Flying back from Greece, around midnight we passed over Greenland, and one of my group came back and told us to look out the window. I looked out, and there they were, green and pink and very strong. I had a window seat, so I got to watch them for about half an hour before they faded.

We are very sorry for today’s false alert which was due to man-made

This phenomenon occurs in the ionosphere, at the very outer edge of earth’s atmosphere. I wonder what it looks like from a plane? Or if it is visible from above, by shuttle or satellite?
I suppose I will have to go to say, Wisconsin, or Alaska? Not sure yet, but I can at least begin a research into this to see where best to view. Fun! They seem so beautiful in the pictures I’ve seen. This is a fun goal, and one I particularly look forward to accomplishing.

it is very beautiful and i think it would be an amazing and unforgettable experience. where are sightings most common?
Better than any fireworks or cinema graphics are nature’s light shows. I ADORE lightening storms and I imagine this is even more amazing. Am looking forward to remember the day i see it for the first time.
