Aesthemeister Relaxing, Resting, and Recreating after a Grueling Semester

Progress 10 months ago

There has been a long delay on this goal, but I’ve just begun to get back around to it. I’ve managed to create the needed time by organizing my life in a more efficient way. Now I have allowed myself to use that time to savor this favorite game of mine! I’ve made progress in a more direct way also. As I’ve had to restudy where I left off, I’ve noticed that I reviewed my prior stuff much more quickly than anticipated. It seems that letting lay fallow really does help with later cultivation! I’m blasting through the stuff I already did in a way that wouldn’t have seemed possible if I tried to do it even right after doing it the first time. It’s like the brain really does need downtime from something to digest what it has gotten!

Ok, so that is going well. Now I must not get bogged down too much on the review, and make new progress! That is the goal. Get the watermark higher than before, before the next semester starts!

I'm a strong club player...but 22 months ago

...but for me the very joy of Chess is enhancing my mind so that I can grasp the subtle nature of verious high-level strategies and tactical methods, which is the fun of perfecting any art. In answer to the gent below, you must play, you must enjoy it, and you must read at least one book on the game in general, one book on tactics, one book on strategy, and one book on openings and endgames. Or, get Chessmaster 10th edition. Either method will get you there if you work at it. Oh, and did I mention play alot?

I want to become a chess master, but how? 1 year ago

This goal is going to take some time.

This is mega long term.

Not that I’m a bad chess player. I’m decent.

But there’s a lot of things I’ve yet to do before I do this.

One of those things is learning how to play timed-chess.

Studying with Chessmaster 9000... 2 years ago

...which I am happy to report makes learning chess easy and fun.

Studying opening theory... 3 years ago

The first few moves in a chess match determine the character of the entire game. A well-placed pawn can mean the difference between victory and defeat twenty-five moves later.

Became USCF NM in 1983 3 years ago

Played competitively since Middle school and became an National master a year after college. It’s not easy, takes many hours of practice, study and play. Also it gets harder the higher you go as the competition gets tougher. But worth it!

or Bobby Fischer. Sadly, online chess is one my favorite things to do, and I did win county champion a couple of years ago. instead of calling me nerdy, consider this endearing in the face of my love of the Subhumans and Bad Brains.
