I actually liked this one! Chuck wasn’t as reliant on his gimmicks in this one as he is with most of the books. I have a feeling this is one he wrote not just for the money… I wasn’t disappointed.

And it was awful.

I hadn’t read a novel by Palahniuk since October- or whenever I finished Haunted, so his gimmicks and style were fresh when I began reading Diary, but the repetitive sentences and gimmicks caused the novel to become stale rather quickly.

After reading most of his novels, I’m convinced that he is not really a writer and just someone with a rich name.

High schoolers can write just as well as he does… and that’s funny because that’s where most of his fanbase is.

I’m considering giving up on this goal because of how anti-Palahniuk I’ve become. Thankfully, I have a library card and I don’t have to pay for his rehashed gimmicks to finish this goal.

I know I'll do this! 20 months ago

I was recommended to Palahniuk by my dA friend a few months ago.
I decided to get the available titles out from the library where my dad works. In 2 months I’d got my hands on and read Haunted, Diary and Lullaby and had loved them!

I then recommended Palahniuk to my friend Luke who has since read the same titles and owns Invisible Monsters…which I am being lent.

I currently have tracked a copy of Rant down from another library and have begun reading that!

I know that I will read all of Palahniuk’s work.
:D

Step Two: Put them on the iPod 22 months ago

Reading means listening for me these days. I have these books so far:

Fight club
Survivor
Invisible Monsters
Choke
Lullaby
Fugitives & Refugees
Diary
Stranger Than Fiction

Haunted
Rant
Snuff

I want to listen in order, though, so I need to get Fight Club to start.

I still believe that Chuck writes for the sole purpose of shocking people… which is okay… But I stand by the fact that all of his books are the same. He uses the same shock tactics over and over and after awhile, it gets tiring and boring.

I loved Fight Club and I really want to like his other work, but it’s all the same thing to me.

I finished Invisible Monsters the other day. It was all right. A little bit less than standard Chuck… I actually found it a little boring. None of his books live up to Fight Club so far… I’m thinking I’ll try Haunted next since I hear lots of good things about it.

I Should Do This Again! 3 years ago

Unlike the other person currently working towards this goal, I love Chuck Palahniuk books! I can’t get enough of them.

Luckily there are tons of other people with the same addiction. Check out the official CP page The Cult to meet some more people who love him.

I devour the new books as they come out within a couple of days. ‘Invisible Monsters’ and ‘Choke’, and the story “Exodus” in ‘Haunted’ still take the cake as my favourites, though!
