"Best friend"

How I did it: It took me 6 months to make the big move, to adopt the cutest furry friend I ever had. I've been reading a lot of book about them, their health and psychology. I bought the cage and accessories months before owning the pet. Then, I've visited a lot of pet shop to find the right one. I found him on the new year eve. He's a blue hooded dumbo male rat. His name's Lucius as the Titus' nephew in the Shakespeare play. Since I got him, I do almost every things with him: go to job, do the shopping, relax at the park... Rats are so intelligent! We can't get apart from each other!

Lessons & tips: - to invest in a HUGE cage is necessary
- read a lot on the subject BEFORE to get one
- It need as much engagement then a dog

    I bought a female dumbo rat 20 months ago

    Her name is Bianca and she’s really personable. She’s sleeping right now. I hope the transition from Petsmart wasn’t too hard for her. I also hope she doesn’t get too lonely when I’m in class and at work. I would have bought two rats but I didn’t know how this would go so I only bought one. She’s six months old so I could have her until 2013 or 2014 if I keep her healthy.

    I’m actually not supposed to have a rat in the apartments I live in because they are campus housing and we’re only allowed to have fish, but as long as I keep really quiet, I bet no one will notice or care.

    I wish I knew more about having a rat. I know they eat a lot of different things that humans can eat so I don’t think she’ll cost me too much money.

    I just want to make sure she’s happy and healthy because I got her to keep me company. I hope everything works out.
