I plan everything before a trip. My husband would love to do this but I would feel unprepared. I like to have everything I need for a trip, but this would be an out of the box goal.

I really think this could help me “let go” and not be so obsessively controlling.

What FUN! 1 week ago

I have to have everything planned out, so this was a big achievement for me. We took off and drove to the northern part of our state. Hit lots of antique stores. Stayed overnight in a small touristy town. On the way back we ended up in a small town that had a bike race going on. That was probably the best part of our little trip. Would like to try again – maybe by leaving the state

koconnor22 Today, I finally see how much I've done in my life. I'm thankful.

and no GPS! 1 week ago

I love traveling with great music, a good friend, a map, and nothing but the wide open road. Time constraints usually prevent people from accomplishing this, but it would be so fun to be able to stop wherever, check out the really small towns, and the unique things they have to offer. I bet I would laugh a lot.

vacation 2 weeks ago

Minimal planning for this vacation. We just knew we wanted to head to the mountains, and get out of the Texas heat. Wound up spending a week in Taos, and another week outside of Durango, CO, before heading home. Had loads of fun. Hiking, horseback riding, even whitewater rafting. The mountains were sooo beautiful. Want to go back.

Setting the Goal 3 weeks ago

As someone who normally plans every detail of every tiny trip, this would be a real step out of the box for me. I can imagine how freeing and fun it must be, and someday I’m going to do it. Just get in my car and drive.

This entry officially marks the setting of this goal.

Untitled 3 weeks ago

I organise everything when I go on holiday etc to the last detail. This would be totally unusual for me.

Detroit tomorrow 3 weeks ago

Flying into Detroit tomorrow afternoon and driving my full-sized American-made gas-guzzling car North and West out of town.

Thursday night I am staying at a semi-historic hotel in Greenville, Michigan – the Winter Inn. They don’t have a web site and I understand that they are on the Nat’l Historic Register as being an old hotel: I hope that is a good thing.

Friday am on the back roads to Manistee where I will visit my favorite Uncle and two cousins. I feel like I have pissed away my life and that I don’t know any of my family and that the time is overdue for me to make up for that lost time.

When I was a kid, this Uncle always treated me well. He was kind. Now he is 90 and nearly blind. The road back to this Uncle has been too long and I am racked with guilt.

Sunday it is back to Detroit and a flight back to Baltimore. I plan on a backroad trip from Manistee to Detroit.

Long drives are metaphors for our lives: this one is long and I am alone.

Just randomly rent a car leave my cell phone with a note attached saying…..I left dont know when I’ll be back but I imagine eventually I will return perhaps… then hit the pavement to places unknown. I want to drive so far that I’m around no one who even knows my name…just the thought instantly makes me smile!! One day I will have my chance and then I’ll be out free as a bird…

run run run as fast as you can you cant catch me I’m the gingerbread man!!!!
