twosoon day off yay!!!!
really really need to do this
How I did it: I had tried for so many years to do get myself organized, but having to change is something so difficult as being a new person. I don't know if some of you may feel about it, but to me, having all this mess was a way of life --one that I didn't like at all.
The thing is, I learned at college about the 5S, and I fell in love with it. It's the best method of organizing your place of work there is. It's one of those quality things from Japan. To be honest, I never thought I would manage to clean my room and actually keep it for more than a day, until I tried this. However, I'm only good for the first three letters, because I tend to get it all messed up very quickly. But this is what I have done so far, I hope it works for you:
1. Seiri: To have a nice room, you have to throw everything away. I noticed I kept too much stuff in it: old papers, books, and most of it was pure trash. I started taking everything out from the drawers and boxes and asking myself: is this something I really need? I managed to throw away maybe the 20% of everything I kept in my room, and put other things that didn't belong in my room back in its place.
2. Seiton: having less stuff is exactly what you need for putting everything into order. Think of what you use the most and keep it near; put the things you don't use in a place you don't check too often. Clean your room. I have found that the best way to do this is to get everything out, clean and paint, and get everything back in. There is nothing like making yourself feel like you just moved in a new place, and you can start over.
3. Seiso: I think this is one of the most important and difficult part in all this. I'm still struggling to get everything clean. I always try to keep a bag to put all my garbage, and get my dishes out if I it in my room. Stuff like that. You can use your spare time to get things out of the way and get a broom to sweep once in a while.
I plan to keep working until I have them all down, so I can have a better place to live, and be happier. I encourage you to do the same. Good luck!
Lessons & tips: Start right away! There's no best way of doing things than just doing it whenever you feel like it. Don't think of "tomorrow" or "next" week. Do it now.
Imagine being a stranger: I sometimes like to think of myself as a person who is coming into my room for the first time. There are things I hardly ever notice, until I try and do this. There are things that you might find awkward or plain stupid. Try to change them.
