Since Carla (a 43things person!!!) has been accepted as an angel, I can now mark this off, as I have encouraged at least one more person to become an angel, and she is already doing a teeeriffic job of it. :)
Yay! Support for people with Cancer

Mailed off a basket for my patient today. As soon as I hear Carla has a patient, I’m going to mark this encouragement as done….

found a sale at Bath and Bodyworks and at American Greetings as well. So my chemo patient has coming to her:
A new keychain
a pad of seashell shaped sticky notes
body cream, body lotion, body scrub
chocolate
and a few cards….
as well as her Easter Basket.
I wanted to get her a humourous book, BUT…I couldn’t really find any that looked very entertaining. :(

tea went out to her today with a teacup card. I felt it was a little cheesy, but tea is so nice and calming. I need to come up with some new ideas for next week though.
I’ve got Easter covered, but there is a week or so between now and then…
Must find something fun. Possibly flowers.

I did a ton of shopping for my Buddy. Even up to the Easter Basket. I found a sale and found her a candel in a tin for 1.00, as well as a pack of bath salts, and a crafty project for me to make for her (a mosiac’ed box…) I’m going to fill the box full of comforting quotations, on the bottom of hte interior I have glued little stones that say “Laughter” “Joy” and “Hope” This is a lot of fun. I can’t wait for Easter now…except I am not exactly sure this year where it falls…

from my patient, chemo-buddy. She didn’t say it but I can tell she isn’t doing very well, as her handwriting is really terrible, compared to what it was in December, I’m actually quite concerned. I’ll be increasing my packages and efforts to provide comfort, as it may not be too long…
I’ve got to come up with some better ideas for packages. Last week it was valentines. This week I got her a pack of Celestial Seasonings Teahouse Chai. Next week is a big bar of chocolate, and I guess after that I’m going to do some cute socks…
Oh worry. But I am as always privilidged to be welcomed to make a difference in her life.

It is a great cause. I have had three chemo buddies, 2 kids and now I have a young lady who is about my age. It’s great fun to make a big difference. It also gives mea good reason to support all sorts of good but unconventional holidays… (2 years ago we celebrated “Hot enough for you day” in august, I promise its a real holiday!)
If you are looking for a volunteer activity that you can do on your own time, this is a great one, also good to do with your kids!
