Get a scooter

I’m changing this goal from “learn to ride a motorcycle” to “get a scooter,” because that’s enough of a mini-goal-within-a-goal to warrant its own place on the list. I moved “learn to ride a motorcycle” to my bucket list… I hope to revisit this in the near future. =) But until then I’ll focus on getting a scooter to ride around town! It’s easier to get all the permissions/endorsements/etc for a scooter and they’re much much cheaper and easier to learn how to ride. So, starting small but accomplishing plenty. =)

I figured I’d read the DMV’s little guide. I skimmed through it to get an idea of some of the basic laws surrounding motorcycles in California… seems pretty straightforward. However, reading through those guides always make it seem like you’re getting into [or mounting, in the case of a motorcycle] a rolling metal death trap. =P I think that’s a good thing… Carelessness is pretty unaffordable.

On our family road trips I always see motorcyclists traveling along the coast or just from place to place, and I’ve always wanted to try that… obviously, I have to learn how to ride a motorcycle first. XD I also think it’d be a good idea to have a motorcycle or scooter to use around town. Anyway, this is more of a future goal, since I don’t have a whole lot of time [or money] to invest in it [as a matter of fact, I don’t have a whole lot of time to invest in lurking around on the internet, either…=P] But! I do want to do this sooner rather than later, so it goes on my list as a reminder. =)

• Get a motorcycle permit:
  

  With a motorcycle permit you are prohibited from operating a motorcycle on freeways or interstate highways, or between sunset and sunrise, or at any time when there is not enough light to clearly see persons or vehicles at a distance of 500 feet. The motorcycle instruction permit is valid for 6 months and can be renewed one time within a 24-month period.

It’s only 49cc, so it doesn’t go very fast, but it’s SO fun to tool around on. Now I want a bigger one!

if my disability comes through, I’d like to get a scooter to use instead of my big old taurus. living in tucson, I can use a scooter most of the year. monsoons will be a challenge, though.

I actually never had a scooter but my significant other did and she almost lost her life. A pickup truck pulled in front of her. It seems in the U.S., people are not respectful of people on scooters, bicycles, motorcycles. And the roads are not scooter friendly. If you get a scooter… please, please, please be careful and even if you are, you have to watch out for the other guy.

My s/o is still recovering from her 2 neck surgeries but she is alive and not paralyzed… for that I am thankful.

Aww wish i had the money to get a scooter. Need to get a part time job and start saving my pennies then hopefully i can get 1 soonish.
