After the profoundly positive experience I had at the Writers of the Future workshop, I feel compelled to let other writers know about this contest for relatively unpublished speculative fiction (i.e. science fiction & fantasy) writers:
- No entry fee. Short stories/novellas of up to 15,000 words.
- Your submission is judged by famous writers like Anne McCaffrey, Andre Norton, Kevin J Anderson, Frederick Pohl, Tim Powers, Robert Silverberg, Gregory Benford, and so on. A stellar cast of judges.
- Quarterly winners. 3 per quarter with 1 grand prize.
- Tremendous array of prizes. Cash prizes up to $5000 for grand prize winner, airfare and limo ride to Hollywood, room at a posh hotel, week-long workshop run by luminaries in the SF&F world, rooftop dinner, black-tie gala at the Beverly Hills Hotel, book signing at Borders Hollywood, a framed illustration inspired by your story, massive acrylic trophies with embedded silver & gold pens, yadda yadda.
- Your story will be published in an anthology with approx 15 other winners. You’ll see your work at Borders, B&N, and many other book stores.
Use the contest as motivation for completing and submitting at least one story per quarter. Write, revise, submit, read, repeat. I won the grand prize last year; my wife and I had a fantastic time in LA.
