volunteer on a local basis

I was thinking the other day that maybe I would try to volunteer for the Salvation Army as a holiday bell ringer. It is a simple way to volunteer.

I thought that if I volunteered on a local basis first, I might know the ropes a little better before getting thrown into a national disaster. good experience.
