I want to take to the NW waters and see more of what I am missing. A kayak would rule.

How I did it: In college there was a group that went whitewater kayaking alot, and had a roll clinic at the pool every week. I met some people from going to that, went on a few trips borrowing kayaks, which was pretty good, but I got a little impatient and wanted my own.We went to a weekend kayak festival near Asheville NC, there were a bunch of people trading gear and selling stuff. I found a pretty good deal on a used boat, so I got it.I … Read how I did it…
How I did it: Saw a deal, and pounced on it. Don't worry too much about the $$, they have good resale, not that you're going to sell it :)Also, don't be afraid to go used - as long as the plastic/fibreglass is sound, the rest of the gear is easy enough to replace. They're meant to pounding and having fun with, and having a pre-scratched one is actually a good thing! Read how I did it…
How I did it: My company gives us 5- and 10-year appreciation gifts--we can pick anything we want from a pre-selected list/catalog. My co-worker didn't see anything he wanted so he let me pick. I chose the 12' lake kayak. It arrived in the mail. Voila! Read how I did it…
How I did it: I saved my money from and waited for the early spring Old Town Canoe and Kayak Sale. We had a heavy snowstorm that day (Maine!), but I drove home with 3 kayaks tied to the top of my Subaru wagon. Read how I did it…

The price of the kayak I want was reduced! So, I might be buying it sooner than expected! Sweet.

After looking through prices on the internet for kayaks, I have made up my mind that I will need to buy a used one. Brand new kayaks can easily go for 1,000.00 and I just don’t have that kinda dough. I love to kayak but I am just not at a pro kayak level yet by any means. It would just be a leisure activity around here in the summertime so I will not need anything too fancy. I will just need to shop around more before purchasing.
I went this weekend for the first time and I loved it. It was so easy to paddle and faster than a canoe. Maybe this will be a next summer cross off my list
etherealessence is such a lucky girl!
We are not going to purchase a kayak anytime soon since we just bought another stand up paddle board! In time, my husband and I are planning to get a kayak though. There was recently a great sale on them, but we weren’t fast enough to get in on it. But later on we will have yet another water toy :D
When I was younger, a friend and I had a couple of ocean-going kayaks that we used to navigate many of our waterways here in British Columbia. We had so much funny. I miss that.
Is the price of the kayak I’d like to have. Hopefully, I’ll be able to come across one as cheap as the one I found for JNW. I hope to have the money for it by next summer.
mecando is fabulous
I bought a chair for my living room instead of a kayak. And I had it upholstered too which, of course, costs more money. Where are my priorities anyway! (sigh)
For our anniversary I’m buying JNW one. It’s only going to be $150 because it’s slightly used. I figure I can borrow his every once in a while…but I enjoy doing it in the company of others…
At least I’ll eventually have a new one to look forward to? I don’t know.
I went kayaking on my camping trip, and loved it! My boyfriend and I now both want one. My element can be equipped with a kayak rack, so I’m all the more excited to save up and get one.
I think it’ll be great for a workout for the summer. I run during the cooler months. Kayaking during the hotter months will be a great balance I think. :)
