How I did it: I looked at schools and at first I was discouraged because they cost so much, but with the push of my husband and the ok, I decided to go for it. The student loans are crazy but I'm so glad I did it. It was a 6 month program and then an internship and now I am a full time baker in NYC! Read how I did it… 2 years ago

I already know how to put things together following recipes. But I want to be able to really bake, especially to have the time to bake delicious breads and desserts for people. I’d love to be known amongst my friends for always baking delicious desserts and providing them to people on special occasions and randomly!! 4 years ago

I really want a new job, but I haven’t figured out what I want to be when I grow up…I have a corporate job with benefits and perks but really I want something fun and different. Something I can enjoy doing. I love to bake at home and thought it would be fun to work in a bakery. Maybe one day I will actually try it! 4 years ago

I have pastry chef on my list already, and although baker and pastry chef are not the same, they’re close enough for the purposes of a life goal list. 5 years ago

apparently my bosses are on crack and think i’m good enough to try out for the coupe de monde, basically the national team that will compete against other countries in baking. i’ve been baking just under two years, so i know i’m not as experienced as most of the other bakers out there . . . but it’s a nice feeling when your bosses think you’re pretty good at your job. 7 years ago

This is a job where you will work very early mornings, long days, and be on your feet all the time. It is intense, stressful, and always either too hot or too cold.
It is also the most rewarding thing that I’ve ever done. If you’re passionate about food, love the kitchen, and are a workaholic, this is definitely the career for you. At times, it will seem like the more that you get done, the more there is left to do (especially during the holiday season!) so make sure you thrive in this kind of organized chaos.
And remember, it’s a fantastic way to make a living. Have fun! 7 years ago

i’m working at a bakery now, but i don’t consider myself to be a baker quite yet. if this doesn’t work out (i’ve been baking professionally for the past 4 years), i’ll go off and teach math. 8 years ago
