I decided to pick up. Just because some mess makers don’t care doesn’t mean I shouldn’t, especially when the litter is in a place very special to me. I play disc golf just about every day during the summer at a wonderful course that goes through a wooded park in my hometown of Roseburg, OR. Even though trash cans are conveniently located throughout the 18 hole course, beer cans and bottles, candy wrappers, straws, coffee cups, and other unidentifiable pieces of detrius are strewn everywhere. Thousands of cigarette butts and hundreds of beer bottle caps that have become wedged in the ground are the most copious litter.
The city work crew empties the overflowing trash cans about once a week, but litter accumulates on the ground, so without officially adopting the park, I will regularly snap on a pair of rubber gloves and fill a bag with trash harvested from Riverfront Park.

I work in a movie theater, so there’s always trash to pick up, because apparently people’s brains shut off the minute they’re in a theater. Anyway, I always pick up the litter at work (even though it’s not my job) because it makes my bosses happy, it makes customers happy, and in a tiny way it makes my coworkers happy. They may hate their job, but it has to perk up morale a little to see that somebody gives a damn how the place looks.

I do this on the way back to my house when I’m on a jog…I’ll pick up as much as I can carry and throw it away at the gas station trashcan…it’s cool. I feel like at least I didn’t just jog on by and ignore the problem. lol :)

It’s difficult to enjoy a walk on a beautiful day when the street you’re taking a stroll down is lined with bottles, fast food containers and other junk. I figure, if I start picking up a grocery trash on my daily walks that should clean up my area quite a bit

As I rode my bike to and from work yesterday I couldn’t stop staring at all the trash that lines the road. It’s really starting to bother me. I want to walk the entire route there and back (8.4 total miles) and pick up as much as I can. I will do small items only, and I will not stray more than 6 feet from the road. There has to be at least 20 bags worth…
