I changed into my new role today. It’s exactly the same as my old role, but for more pay. It’s not supposed to be the same as my old role, but I did pretty much everything that I now have to do anyway.
It feels good. :)

I have an interview with a few members of staff a week on Monday to see about the job.
I’m the only person they’re interviewing, so I’m hoping that’s a dead giveaway. I’d imagine I’ll have to do something amazingly stupid to not get this now. :D

I’ve applied for the job that’s come up. It’ll be a promotion and a bit of a raise, so that’s cool.
the closing date for applications is tomorrow. I’m hoping there aren’t going to be many applicants because it was internal. I should have a bit of an advantage over most of them anyway, since I already do the job. :)

I wrote in my last message that I’d probably not get a promotion even if Adam moved to another job. Well, now he’s moving to another job I’ve had a word with my boss. I’ve been told it’s going to be discussed tomorrow. So that’s much better than I expected to begin with.
Perhaps there is a chance I’ll get promoted and the new person will be taking my current job… We’ll see. Just got to try to impress all the time, I suppose.

Got a raise twice this year. Not a promotion…but more money for my performance at work. Nothing to brag about..but I am happy!

While it’s not a promotion OR a raise, I have taken on some extra jobs at work that will be paying me extra money each week. So I’ll be making about $150/week more :D
Hurrah!

This will probably not happen in the job I’m in. Even if Adam (guy above me) moves to another job he’d probably be replaced by a new guy, above me, or the position would just be abolished or something.
If I ever get promoted in this job I’ll be amazed.

I’m giving up this goal since I completed the other goal of quitting my job, and now have no job to get a raise in.

I work in a college, so it’s fairly difficult to be promoted. It’d probably be more difficult if I were a teacher, but I’m not. I work in the IT Centre, looking after the students and staff who want to use computers outside of class. Short of being promoted inside this area there’s not really many places I can go either.
I could become a teacher… My training would be entirely paid for bythe college because I already work here. So that’s one possibility. I’d quite like to work with the web site of the college, as well as the internal sites. I’m pretty sure I’d be a valuable member of the team in those places.
Either way, I think the first step is recognition. Recognition is to do with your visibility within the company. I’m off in a corner of the building where not everyone goes. Other people do the same job as me at the moment, and so it’s quite difficult to stand out in any way.
Today we had a presentation from the principal of the college. There were some interesting things in there about being bold, pushing the boundaries, innovating, and things like that. Your usual corporate stuff. There were a few other ideas touched on that I found interesting. At the end of the presentation the principal asked if we had any questions. I was in a room with 700 people, so I decided to hold my questions.
When I got back to work I sent an email to the principal with a few suggestions and questions. Almost straight away I recieved a reply saying that I would have a meeting with the principal to discuss my ideas properly.
This is my first step to recognition. I need to make a lasting impression with the principal, come up with some ideas, and find a way to help lead the changes a little more.
I’ll update when I’ve had the meeting. :) Then I can work on step two.

Got bumped up to a Teller instead of an Intern and got a $1.75 raise in the process.
