How to take a year off
How I did it: I finished high school and decided to not go straight to post secondary. I think it was a good decision for me. This is a great time to get out and see the world, while you are young and don't have as many responsibilities. I am happy I did it, because originally I thought that it was much better to go straight to school. I worked the first 6 months in order to fund my travels for the next 6 months in Europe!

I went a year at a school in New York and hated it. Now I’m Chicago, and I’m just not doing well. I’m thinking about taking a year off. I’m not sure what I would do. Or if this is he right decision. I think I am staying for the semester…..then what?
I’ve always wanted to volunteer in Africa… maybe that is an option?

working for a year from Spain or Italy would be nice as well.

While all my friends are off to university, I got a job! I will be working at a quaint tea shop in a neighbouring town. I’m excited; I start on Monday!

I’m in the process of doing this right now. Let the adventure begin!
Actually booked it – tour starts in Santiago and finishes Ushauia (bad spelling will correct later!)
After I had worked for about 6 years, I took a year off and drove around the country. I had no schedule (except a self-imposed one) and saw things that I never would have seen if I had been on a planned trip. I visited friends and stayed for as long or as short as I wanted.
This was before cell-phomes became a fixture for everyone, and it was sorta nice being out of touch every so often. I would buy pre-paid phone cards at the post office and use them in pay phones when I could find one. I camped out some, slept in my car some and also stayed in motels. I would recommend that everyone do this. It was fantastic!!

this was hard because i love school so much. to take a year off was quite depressing. i had less of a social environment and i wasn’t being stimulated and motivated every day. but it was good because it helped me focus. i now know what i want to major in and i now have a plan on how to enjoy the process of getting my degrees and take full advantage of college opportunities. i feel more focused and ready which was pretty much my goal. so this was a good decision overall. YAY!

this year off thing has been painful!!!!!!! but perhaps, productive. there are definitely things i’ve decided and possibilities to help fill in the gaps. i know what i want to do this fall and that’s get my ecc credits so i can get a better job so i can get a degree. i’ll stay in community college until i exhsaust my welcome where i hope to either go back to UHH or argosy or maybe some better place i find to further my psychology and sociology degree. we’ll see. i left room for possibilities… but i have a backbone. i might go to el paso for a midwife program. that too depends on what i’m doing in a year. but i like this plan. a lot.
