trace my Cherokee ancestry

i have alot of history and i wanna no were to look people tould me 2 go on here it works so here i am

I have family from North Carolina, near Ashville,also. I know I am Cherokee indian, just want to know more. (People on the street ask me if I am all the time) its crazy. My family names are Payne, Clark, Riddle, Shipley, Price, that I know of, all from this area…

I am attempting to trace Cherokee heritage in my mother’s family in possibly Bishopville and Ashville, North Carolina. My mother’s name was Goldie Anna Lyles, her mother, Mary Lyles, father Preston Brooks Lyles.

I have been told that I have Cherokee ancestry but not exactly sure where it starts or if it is even true. How can I find out?

I know that my maternal grandfather’s mother was a full blooded cherokee indian…. But he died when I was in grade school and I don’t feel comfortable enough to ask my nana about it…. hmmm….

It is either in the Van Buren County Arkansas Line of “Turney” or it is in the VBC Arkansas Line of Dollar or possibly it is in both family lines. There is some evidence of Choctaw in the Turney line as well as Cherokee.

Particularly as it involves learning as much as possible about the trail of tears where the last known full blooded Cherokee matriarch in my family is said to have died. I can only imagine the worst until I know more and so maybe it will help to know more, maybe not. Also, the trail of tears happened in 1838 and being 170 years removed from the event, it seems as though I may be chasing shadows from the start!
