Ear Candling - Tried it Tonight! 2 years ago

Not as scary as I thought it would be = ) I can’t tell a huge difference, despite the fact that there is a LOT less wax in my ears (gross gross gross!). My aunt Bonnie, however, swears that it takes two or three days before you notice a difference in your hearing. Even if my hearing doesn’t improve, I’m glad I did this because that stuff did not need to be in me. Hahaha!

I’ve wanted to do this for a long time, because my mother, brother, aunts, uncles, and cousins all do it. It’s driving me nuts that I haven’t tried it yet. I want to do this yet this summer, but I really only trust my mom to help me out with it and we’re all so busy lately. I should remind her to pick up some hallowed candles so we can do it the next time we stop out.

Took a while, but I think I get it now 2 years ago

This practice has been suggested to me a few times for the purpose of removing ear wax. Wax is created from the skin glands of the outer ear and then build-up falls into the ear. So you’ve got more of a skin condition than an ear condition. Sometimes those with acne will also have ear wax build up. Face washing/ear cleaning, pillow case changing, limited headphone and cellphone usage, irrigating the ears with a peroxide solution and even ear candling-are all surface solutions. They do not regulate the signal your oil glands are receiving to produce more oil in the glands. I’ve been influenced to think it may be more of a hormonal issue or a nutritional one. I think there’s some truth to the myth that greasy oily food will give you oily skin. Particularly trans fat or what I call zombie fat. It’s weird un-natural stuff.

There are apparently some misconceptions and mistakes about ear candling:

-Ear candles will not remove anything from the middle ear nor the inner ear. The eardrum is blocking this, so it will not clear the eustachian tubes, nor will it pull anything from your sinuses.

-Apparently it’s rare for an ear candle to remove any wax, if it does then it’s a small amount and others are confusing the melted wax in the candle for their ear wax.

-Ear candles don’t remove ear wax in the candle. The smoke that travels in the ear dries up the wax in the ear canal and allows it to then naturally fall out. For those that believe in energy it’s also a technique to remove the weight of others words.

-Quality of candles ranges from brand to brand. I’ve read the stories where burning hot ear wax drips into the ear, burns a hole in the ear drum and damages your hearing. Therefore there are packages that say “drip-less” and beeswax has been suggested to me. Before I place them in my ear I want to test them by burning one to see if they drip while in a horizontal position and while vertical while covering the end with a finger.

-Those who are heat sensitive report feeling a burning sensation in their ear. However this is just because there is something on fire near your ear. I’m not sure what to do about the heat sensation in the ear, but for feeling any heat outside of the ear canal I’ve heard that you can use some foil or some other shielding device to prevent this.

-Those who receive assistance with this are less likely to have anything catch on fire.

I’ve heard that it’s quite relaxing and that there are scented ones which hopefully don’t downgrade the quality in another area of the candle-like make it smoke excessively. Does anyone know of any good brands?

cleared my waxy ears out and helped with decongesting and rebalancing after flights etc. My son has always suffered from earaches when flying particularly and it helped him too. Would be careful with allergy sufferers though as others have mentioned.

I heard that it clears chakras. And I have an ear wax problem right now which is bugging me. And I have a constant mucous ball in my sinus cavity. I hope it helps….

I’ve had it done before and the amount of wax that came out was disturbing!

    Smoky times... 3 years ago

So it may seem gross, but we tried the hippie hygiene practice of ear candling. First of all, it didn’t work at all, and secondly, it smoked so much that we had to open all the windows so that we could breathe!! I don’t recommend this for anyone, especially anyone with allergies or asthma. Yuck!!
