How I did it: I got on their website and asked for a prospectus. Didn't really know what most of it meant, but I didn't get hung up on that--the concept of a mutual fund makes it pretty safe, and I'm a LONG term investor, as I was only 24 when I started it. I turned in their application for one with a check for like $200,and they got it going. One of the reasons I liked that company was that they'd let me start it with less than $1K, which most won't do. Lessons & tips: Think about where your money is going. I’m getting to the point where I might actually be able to put something away, but I’m having doubts. Mostly I’m worried about it disqualifying me for financial aid… Am I being silly? It is something I would like to do before I finish college.
I need to do more research, but I’ve heard this is the way to go. Right now I have everything in my company 401(k) but I’ve heard these are better. Of course the stock market sucks right now: I’m down by 1/3 in my 401(k), but I have time. I want to get my retirement goals in order by the time I’m 30.

1, 2, 3, Done! 30 minutes on the internet and 3K down on my savings, I openned a Roth IRA. I can now get my own golf cart when I’m old and mean . :-)
I should open one because I have the advantage of opening one early. I don’t think I will be able to put in the maximum, but even small amounts will benefit me when it comes time for me to retire.

I have 7% taken out weekly for my 401k, but the company I work for doesn’t match anything, so I want to reduce the percentage and open a Roth IRA in addition to my 401(K) – The Roth IRA is more accessible
