go to museums in Chicago

Sad to say that it took nearly a year of living here before I got around to going to any museums.

1. DuSable Museum of African American Culture – I went here when my Dad and step-mom came to visit back in June. The museum is small-ish, but I really enjoyed the exhibits. I especially liked “Blacks in the Military” which showcased the contributions of African-Americans in every major American war. It was quite interesting.

2. Museum of Science and Industry – A friend and I went to the Museum of Science and Industry, and I was kind of underwhelmed by the exhibits I got to see. Still, I want to go back to check out the Harry Potter and Smart House exhibits.

Chicago has some great museums. The MCA is usually pretty weak but always has a diamond in the rough. The Art Institute is a must see. Just get out and go!!! Most of them have a free day, so do a little research, get out there, and enjoy!

Chicago should be dubbed “Exhibit City”, as there is a museum on every downtown street. I live in Chicago, and I plan on not being able to see every museum in my lifetime because of the sheer volume this city possesses. I still do the Art Institute about four times a year, though. Admission is “recommended”!

They are quite good, I personaly am fond of the ‘Contemporty Art Museum’.

Especially the Art Institute. One room after another of priceless, famous, incredible art. Wear comfortable shoes!

I’m a Chicago-born Florida transplant. There isn’t anything down here that compares to the museums in Chicago. My favorites are the Museum of Science & Industry and the Field Museum. Went there plenty of times with my family, and always on school field trips.
Every time I make it back to Illinois, I want to go downtown and see everything again, especially since I have two boys 11 and 13 who’ve never been there – we stay out in Rockford with my Mom.
I’ve also enjoyed the planetarium and the Shedd Aquarium. The only place I’ve never been (gasp) is the Art Institute.

All the Chicago museums are totally worth the trip. Spend an entire day at each one, and you still won’t be able to take it all in.

I’ve gone many times to the museums. I would reccomend it to everyone. It is one of my favorite places to visit.
