    SEAMUS 9 months ago

i’ve been trying to trap a cat out on my grandmother’s new property out in the middle of BFE. this cat is very wild and feral and ALSO very sick. he has an injured paw that is several times the size of a normal paw, he is missing huge chunks of fur, and he just looks awful. we trapped him and today i drove out there to pick him up, and there was blood everywhere. i drove him to the vet and they gave me an estimate – at least 400 dollars that i don’t have, but they were nice enough that because of our history of prompt payments they let me set up an account for ol’ Seamus. he’ll get neutered and the infected tumor will be removed, he’ll get all his vaccinations, and then we can start treating him like the beautiful and sweet cat he is meant to be.

my mom is so mad, i haven’t told her how much it costs, but i will pay it off, little by little. i’m glad that i rescued a cat today.

In December I rescued a feral cat from Rhode Island. She was living with a colony of ferals on a lot owned by a man who was threatening to euthanize them if they weren’t gone by the end of November. So I took in little Sophie! In the pictures I saw, she was just a tiny ball of orange fluff looking cold and scared under a car. I just saw her and knew that she was supposed to be mine. She is almost a year old but will always be tiny like a kitten due to the lack of food when she was younger. She purrs so hard it makes her cough sometimes. And most importantly, she ADORES Kismet. (He is still getting used to having a young’n around, but they groom each other and play a lot so mostly I think everything worked out perfectly.)

Technically I’ve already done this three times :) I have two wonderful cats from the humane society in Wisconsin (they live with my dad now, because he is in love with them and won’t give them back – which is actually a pretty wonderful problem to have!), and currently living with me I have my big man cat, Kismet. I’m very obsessed with him. He was abandoned at the pet store two years ago and then had a host of urinary tract infections and was put into foster care, after which I adopted him. I live with a roommate who has a cat, Mona, and she and Kismet are bff. Unfortunately, my roommate’s moving out in December, so I’ve been looking for a new friend for Kismet – and I think I’ve found her! She is a tiny tiny feral cat from Rhode Island, living with a colony of other ferals who will all be euthanized if they don’t find homes by November 24th. She is going to vet tomorrow to be spayed and get her shots and if everything works out, she’ll be here in a week! I’m very excited, but nervous. Kismet is very used to having all of my attention and I don’t want him to feel jealous or resentful. I think it will work to my advantage that the new cat is so tiny, and a girl—he will hopefully feel less threatened that way. I can’t wait!
