Oh, this is a miserable time-consuming job. I bought my house from my folks, and they and all the previous owners had puppies in the house. The carpet pad was just filthy. The carpet was always vacuumed and looked clean, but the 20 year old pad told a different story. I guess I have cats myself, but I think hardwood floors are easier to deal with when you have pets.
Now I just have to: sand them, stain them, and varnish them. Oh, but I still find those darn tacks here and there and need to also get some quarter-round for the edges and GUESS WHAT! There are huge unpatched holes in the floor where the radiators used to be! ARRRGGGGHHHH! But I really love my house. It’s worth it. I will live here until I croak and they carry my dead corpse out to the cemetery.
