Movies out, the size of your wallet and the value of friends... 10 months ago

    Hey, people!
Seems a lot of people are interested in physically going out to the movies. That’s a good thing. Our only problem with that is that who’s got money to keep hitting the local cineplex? A LOT of us. On average, if you get snacks and a drink for two people, you’rel looking at spending roughly thirty dollars to head down to some place NOT as comfortable as your own living room.
One thing you CAN do if you want to try to score movie tickets is sign up for sites like fandango.com or movietickets.com and fulfill some of the offers they have for members.
If you like going out with friends…why not have them come over instead. Most movies are now being made available as pay-per-view events through your cable provider.
When a new movie comes out plan ahead of the release date. Not too long ago, the Dark Knight dvd came. We had a dvd release party at our house complete with a pre-show documentary on the history of Batman, a couple of Batman themed games and a look at the Joker. We’ve also hosted Academy Awards night, spooky movie nights, pirate movie nights and even hold party nights when our favorite new television shows restart their seasons.
Get creative at home and you can have just as much fun, if not more, than you would going out to the theater.
Hope this helps, have fun and take care,
    Tony

Since I moved to Paris I discovered you can have a special card that allows you to go to see as many movies as you want for 20 euros per month… it’s not that expensive and it could let me see movies that I wouldn’t usually.
I think this would give me a better “popular culture” if I go more often, I would also be socially abble to talk about the last movies I saw with people and seeing movies in english for example would help me to improve my language skills… it’s a good comprehension exercise.

going to the movies is becoming such an expensive thing to do, i almost think it’s better to enjoy it home with family and friends

Go every 2 weeks at least 17 months ago

i always used to complain about being bored at home on the weekend, and going to the cinema never really used to cross my mind…but this yr ive seen a movie almost every 2 weeks, sometimes with my boyfriend twice in one week spontaneously deciding to watch a movie..or even with my girlfriends. Have to say Ironman is the best movie i have seen this yr.

I’ve seen more movies this year than probably any other previous year.

Movies give you an opportunity to hang out with friends for at least a couple of hours, be engaged in a story, laugh more than you will laugh in an entire day, possibly feel sad or heartbroken, and it’s always fun to discuss movies with friends afterwards.

    yeah! 2 years ago

ever since I met my boyfriend in January, I’ve been to the movies more often. Awwww!

    peace.

    Oh well... 2 years ago

I quit on this one…I think it is way easier to just rent movies & watch at home so I’ve joined an online movie rental. It’s cheaper too.

Pretty heavy, very cynical (realistic) film. I personally have no doubt that to a large extent this is how the world works but it’s still kind of striking to see it dramatically depicted.

Watched this Sunday. Very interesting. May require more watchings. And experimentation. :) I know this has sort of morphed from the social ‘Going to the movies more often’ but at least I’m catching up culturally. :)
