I will not buy from Wal-Mart and will not accept anything bought at Wal-Mart; I’d rather go without.
If you’re not part of the solution, then you’re part of the problem.

Brigid is super lazy right now.
I can’t even remember the last time I was in Wal Mart. I’ve turned my entire family off of it, and a few of my friends.
I think I could possibly fill a room with things I’ve bought from Wal-Mart that broke right away – or ripped, or tore, or shrunk, to chipped, or just plain stopped working. My list includes: vaccuum, surround sound system, candle holder set, swim cover, backpack, BBQ lighter, sheets that came unravelled, towels that started unravelling… The reason their things are so cheap is that they make the producers make them cheaper, and that’s why things you bye at Wal-Mart don’t last.
I want to do this. The longest I’ve gone so far is 2 months, though! I now live in a really small rural town where sometimes Wal-Mart is the ONLY place to get certain things. Today I have to buy a wireless network card for my laptop and there’s nowhere else to go! If I was more organized I’d have already ordered one, online. But now I need it and I need it today. I feel like Wal-Mart is killing our small-town businesses. But, jobs are scarce here and Wal-Mart is a big employer, too. It’s a tough call. If I was only focusing on Wal-Mart as a corporation, and its practices in general, yes, I would BOYCOTT—but sometimes I have nowhere else to shop. I do shop for everthing I can get by with elsewhere, even if the prices are higher!
Melissa Axel is psyched to put out her new EP Transition!
Learned about many of these reasons for avoiding Wal-Mart some time ago, both the important effects it has on communities and individuals, as well as the painful effects it had on me whenever I set foot in the dump! Happy to continue spreading the word… money talks and bullshit walks, but in this case, my money is walking away from the bullshit (is this a variation on the phrase “vote with your feet”?) ;-)
Almost two years since I’ve bought anything from them, and I couldn’t be happier with the decision. I have also been trying to keep myself informed, and I’ve been telling people why I don’t shop there. I know it’s making a difference, because I see people shop there less (a few have actually stopped completely).
It’s not enough to boycott, but you need to let others know why you are doing this as well. And to assist people who work there. Not everyone can afford to be poor..
I’ve yet to get booted off their property. That should be my next goal.
