I want to memorise the quran so that i can help my children to memorise the Holy Quran

need help starting 1 month ago

I want to do this but I am intimidated, lazy, and get distracted easily. When is the best time of day for this? The best method? The best sections or chapters to start with? Should you do it in order? Do you have to know the rules of tajweed to do it?

Thanks for your help

InshaAllah i will memorize the Qur"an 1 month ago

Asalamun Alykum wa rahmatullahi wa barkatuhu,
I really wanted to memorize the Qur”an because we all should first prefer to know what Allah subhahanawata”alla says in his last and final revelation in the Qur”an. Then instead of knowing the worldly education. Because the Qur”an is send for the whole mankind.

Bus Works 4 months ago

I have been working on Al-Anaam on the bus. The basic approach is to just keep reading it and then to look outside and repeat it and see how far I can get before I get stuck. When I get stuck I check the text. And then repeat. Sometimes I have something memorized one day. Then the next day I lose it. But then when I repeat it a few times it comes back much faster the second time. And then it stays longer.

Listening to Saad Al-Ghamdi is also very helpful.

So I have been memorizing on the bus. Just reading over and over again and then mysteriously the subconscious mind just picks it up. I think a key element in memorizing is to not force it but just to wait for it to happen on its own. The deliberate forceful approach leads to really slow progress. The effortless unforced approach can lead to a nice pace of a page a day or more.

MY progress so far 4 months ago

Assalamualaikum

Its been a long time since I set this goal. Alhamdulillah I have learnt to read arabic much better now and I have been going to tajweed classes for the past 2 years now. I have begun learning in a class so the hifz is taking some time. especially as I have a 2 year old daughter now. I think she will over take me soon, inshAllah. It takes me such a long time but I have found the trick is definitely to push urself harder and harder until it sticks in ur mind.

I think if I can remember the lyrics from 100s of songs (from before I was Muslim) then how come I feel I can’t memorise Quraan. It has so much more meaning and so much more value. Inshallah I will get there. EVen if Im 60 when I complete it I am determined.

REmember me in ur duaas please everyone :)

JazakAllah Kheir.

Started memorizing on the bus again. I lost several pages of Al-Anaam because I stopped reviewing. Now I am back at this again. Today I work on the 137 and 138. So with 137 I am done with 10 pages. The last page is 150. So I have about 12 left. Although these should go fast because I was all the way up to 145 last year when I stopped.

The bus is a perfect place to memorize. It is too rickety to do anything else. Memorizing is perfect because it requires not much reading. I can stare out the window and keep working on this.

The brain was made for memorizing. After I memorize for a while I begin to wonder how I ever lived without it. Once this associative engine wakes up it goes into an absorptive frenzy.

Sometimes when I wake up in the morning, before I am coherent, and can even think properly, some of the phrases I am memorizing erupt in my mind. That’s a sign that I almost have the page.
