Living simply like Buddha: 3 years ago

Live simply ,have few desires. It allows for more time and concentration to practice the way and to help others. It leads to peace ,joy and serenity.

I feel that having few possessions and fewer needs is the way to serve others better. It leads to peace.

Buddha said:Believe and accept only those things which accord with your own reason, those things which are supported by the wise and virtuous, and those things which in practice bring benefit and happiness to yourselves and others.

Does this mean Buddha accorded high importance to reason as compared to passion?Sometimes , while contemplating about Buddha , i get this very strong feeling .Wonder if someone knows and tells me.

Importance of community 3 years ago

Community or sangha is as important as the Buddha or the Dhrma.Community or sangha is a number of persons practicing a way of life or a common thing.Community provides support and guidance to each member as well as to the Dharma and the Buddha. It is necessary to take refuge in the Sangha.

To my mind , what Buddha realized and practiced 25oo years ago , is relevant today as well .We must not only regard different communities , to which we belong , as important .We should also become members of new communities of like minded persons to strengthen ourselves well as the as cause which we believe.

Buddha said: 3 years ago

I find three robes sufficient on cold nights. From now on let us announce that each bhikkhu will own only one begging bowl and no more than three robes. If more than that are offered ,the bhikkhu will decline them.

After getting enlightenment ,Buddha did not admit women to Sangha ,the community of bhikkus.Later on , on the insistence of his own mother and other women , he agreed to admit women into Sangha.I wonder what prevented him in the beginning.

Direct experience: 3 years ago

Words can not describe reality.Only direct experience enables us to see the true face of reality.

Budhha said above lines.I feel that the purpose of any guide or teacher or book should be to guide others to have direct experience, and not to explain the universe.

Buddha on prayers: 3 years ago

If one doesn’t overcome ignorance and mental obstructions, one can not cross to the other side of liberation, even if one spends one’s whole life praying. In such a situation , prayers are useless.
When i first read it , i thought it was too radical for Buddha to have said it .But now i feel that if we do prayer in ignorance , it becomes just a ritual.Any comments?

Arts: 3 years ago

Playing the flute does not depend solely on practicing the flute. You cannot reach lofty heights in art if you do not first discover the unsurpassable beauty in your own heart. If you would like to play the flute truly well, you must find your true self on the Path of awakening.

Meditate on interdependent nature of all things: 3 years ago

All things depend on each other for their arising, development and decline.Meditation on these things gives us a different picture of the nature of universe .All our paradigms may change accordingly.
