I walked up it from my uncle’s place in Chapel Hill on the morning of my cousin’s wedding. I don’t think I was on the proper path, and the last bit was scarily steep and a little slippery, both on the way up and on the way down. I’d never been there before, so it was a great view of Brisbane. Next time I do it I will find the proper way to go – sometimes there’s a reason why it’s the road less travelled.

I woke up at 7:00am on Saturday morning and embarked on the steep walk up Mt Cootha. It was a beautiful morning though even at this time the sun was already exuberating its powerful heat. Many ambitious bike riders had arrived to challenge the hill as well as a few runners whom I passed along the way.
It was a challenging but fulfilling climb and even more exhilerating was running all the way down again (though perhaps a little tiring on the leg muscles)
I failed to time myself to the minute however I would estimate that the round trip took me about 50 minutes to complete. It’s definately one challenge I will undertake again when my legs have recovered! :)

The name Mt Cootha assails visions of a tall mountain peak suspended above the clouds, however no such elaboration could be deemed even close. It is simply a nice rounded hill protruding above the city of Brisbane and though it does not lend itself to mountain-climbing in its absolute sense, it still does provide a challenge to any keen walker.
I hope to undertake the uphill walk in the next few weeks, ideally early morning before the hot sun is too overbearing.
