I tried learning already but it didn’t work out well for me. But I’d really like to learn and succeed at it!
How I did it: i bought a car and couldnt drive it off the lot...so my mom drove it home for me. it was a car i loved so i had to learn it. the first few times i gently let go of the clutch while gently pushing on the gas once i felt the engine go..i pushed more gas and let the clutch release.
Lessons & tips: you have to keep the clutch in all the way when starting the engine.

I’ve only driven automatic a few times and it’s so boring! So, totally worth driving a stick!
I’ve driven basically only with manual gear and tried only a few times automatic. Living in Europe is definetly an advantage for this goal, since most of the cars are stickshift drives.
I prefer manual to automatic also for ecological reasons: I can use easier engine braking and rolling downhills without a gear on. Automatic gear then again might be better in deciding the lowest gear for the diriving in the beginning, but still it cannot plan ahead the road, but only react to the current moment.
I drove a manual for 6 years, but now i drive an automatic. Every once in a while i try a change gear and brake really hard and nearly crash. damn clutches.
My friend at college taught me and it’s awesome and I’d recomend it to anybody!
I learned to drive a stick. I got my brothers toyota corolla for my 16th birthday and I love it. I love driving a stick because it makes me pay more attention and gives me something to do.
well, I attempted to learn how to drive a stick this past week when I was on vacation. My dad was teaching me. I drove for about a mile and got it up to 3rd gear. I didn’t stall it once! I still don’t feel like I am completely comfortable driving one so I am not going to say that I can drive a stick yet…I still need more practice, but I have made progress!!
Driving a stick is the best choice I made in my experiences as a driver. It opens up a whole new dimension of control over the vehicle, and affords true, complete oneness of driver and car. If you want to learn, I can recommend a Honda, as their gearboxes are especially tolerant of mistakes and very easy to drive. Do not go straight for the sports car because you will find it very difficult to learn! I can still drive an automatic, but I hate it, and can see why there are so many sleeping-driver accidents in autos!
By the way girls… Guys LOVE a girl who can drive a stick. And remember: Easy on the clutch!
