One of my friends here at uni, who I’ll be living with next year, has just won an accordion on eBay. It’s not mine, but I will certainly be sneaking into his room to try and play it when he’s not home!
I might go and take down the number of someone offering lessons from the noticeboard in the indie record shop here too. For him, obviously (then he can tell me what he’s learnt!).

For about 6 months now. I already know how to play piano, drums, and recorder, so I am thinking it will slightly easier to learn.
Cheers,

I’ve been playing the accordion for about 50 years. I started playing Polkas in the Midwest, learned to play Cajun-style in Louisiana, and picked up on conjunto and celtic styles while I was in Texas

I have wanted to do this since high school. This guy I knew had a little squeezebox and this desire to play has been rattling around my head for the past… Wow, almost 15 years! If I’ve wanted to do it for this long, well… I think it’s a sign that it’s not just some whim I can get over without actually doing it. I don’t want to by lying on my death bed regretting never having learned to play the accordian!
ps – My boyfriend (and anyone else I mention this to) has a great old laugh. “You want to learn how to do what?” =P

I don’t know if this is related, but I’ve been listening to a lot of Klezmer music lately.
It must be my Jew part coming out, or something.

Today my book arrived at the local literature retailer:
“You can learn to play ACCORDIAN”
It looks like it’s really going to help. There’s a breakdown of the bass keys as well as a refresher in notation (which I guess I needed when starting to look at the sheet music.) There’s lots of songs in the book from really easy to quite difficult and there’s also a nice amount of drills and practice exercises.
Yay!
I’ll post more when there’s been some progress.
I also got new straps for Christmas which help substantially. I was using a large narrow scarf wrapped doubly before…

Found a beautiful vintage Rauner Ariola at an antique sale in very good working condition. It’s missing a couple of it’s black keys but I found a local accordian doctor.
I’m so in love.
I play her every night.
In three weeks I’ve only learned a couple songs, one Los Lobos and the Strip Polka – bass chords.
Picking up the buttons is hard for me because I have a huuuuuuggge accordian and not so huge hands. (2.5 octave keyboard.)
I have included a pic of a similar model (slightly larger) but the same beautiful blue/grey pearl finish.
Not to make you guys jealous but…
I PURCHASED HER FOR A MERE $50 CANADIAN DOLLARS!!!
