I think that learning a second language would really help me out communicating the the community gardens I want to work with. Many are run by immigrant families, and I would love to be able to talk with them comfortably if they don’t know English

Why do so many of us spend our early lives learning a second language, but we never understand the benefits of this knowledge? We grow up slowly losing the words and eventually stop understanding it altogether.
I HAVE to learn Spanish again! I NEED to! I WANT to!
I took 5 years of French from 8th to 12th grades, then 2 years of Spanish in college. Of the two, I loved Spanish more. Learning French first was good because the two languages share a lot of root words and grammatical structure, so Spanish was pretty natural for me. Ever since I left college, it’s all been draining out of my head. I see a huge need for bilingual people in my field, and I know that becoming conversationally fluent will help me connect with clients and possibly allow me to make more money. Plus, Spanish is damn sexy.
I started taking Spanish lessons with another friend who has had exposure and can speak some but never studied formally. She wanted to start with a beginner book so that she can make sure she doesn’t skip anything vital, so it’s a bit elementary, but is designed for people who are not looking at Spanish for the first time. Review though it is, it is really helpful. I have started thinking and dreaming in Spanish again without defaulting automatically to Chinese. As long as I keep both studies up simultaneously, they should both be intact in no time!
baj1985 sad baseball season has ended for the Tribe :(
I ordered some books because I was going to take a class in the summer, but it was too expensive. I figured I’d start off where I left off…
I hope they come soon!
