A Concert In The Park 16 months ago

it was really a wedding reception, but still a concert in the park with a live band! Rayford, Bob and Cory. I don’t know what the hell they were calling themselves tonight. They had one practice session to get them all in sync. That was last night. I missed it though.
The music was good. They didn’t sound like they had had only one practice before this gig. They were in sync perfectly most of the time! It was good to see Cory on the drums. I wasn’t expecting him to be there at all. Last I had heard, the drummer was going to be some kid from Alton. Something came up though and they called upon Cory at the last second. They should have asked Cory when they found out this gig was to happen, but… well, you know how things sometimes go…
At any rate, they entertained the crowd, delighted a few of us and pretty much rocked the little town of Woodston! I had a great time!

This wasn't extraordiaire! 17 months ago

I did hear live music though. A harmonica and acoustic guitar with a PA system that drowned out the singing more than not. They had an audience of roughly 20 at one point in time. The six folks that came into the bar unexpectedly only stayed for one game of pool and round of drinks. I am certain it was the entertainment that drove them away!
Why did I stay? I can tell you it was not the best of bands I’ve ever had the pleasure of listening to, but it was the most determined band I have ever listened to. And the fact it was my nephew playing the harmonica and trying his damnest to overcome the obstacle of the PA being too loud without actually turning the PA down, well that had something to do with my staying! Oh yes! Justin and Nate belted them out! Couldn’t understand a thing they were singing unless the tune was familair to me. I had a great time though and I did get a fix of live music.
Best part of the evening? When Susan put Nate’s guitar pick in her bra and he said, “That’s the sexiest thing I’ve ever seen done with one of my picks!” He was grinning like a dog! LOL It was beautiful!
I think if Justin and Nate do some practicing they will improve greatly. I also thing that if they got themselves a guitar player, electric guitar player, they would do even better!
Susan is Justin’s mother. Justin and Nate are in their late 20s. The smile on Nate’s face when he said that to Susan was priceless. There was shock and delight mixed equally together! It made me grin.

Christian Rock Band Extraordinaire 21 months ago

This past Wednesday was a totally excellent day in many ways and hearing a live band was one of the things that made it excellent! I couldn’t tell you the name of this band though. I forgot to catch their name…They were fabulous though! I’m not a big fan of Christian Rock, but it was the only music offered and I truly was not disappointed!
I need more live music in my life.

Wednesday 24 Oct 07 2 years ago

No clue what the boys call themselves in the band I listened to on Wednesday evening. Wasn’t really even a band, just two guitars and a bass guitar with RC singing his heart out and Tina trying to sing hers out. I’ll give her this: She does try very hard to project a sense of connection to the music, but that woman simply can’t hold a tune in a tin bucket! (neither can I so that is in no way a put down! Least she had the balls to put that mike to her face and belt those old country tunes out! Scratchy voice and all!)
I had an excellent time singing along (without benefit of the mike—-I refused the offer cause I KNOW I CAN”T HOLD A TUNE IN A TIN BUCKET!) Was a good time all around! I needed a good fix and that is what I got! And the man played “fool for your stockings” for me alone! (All the while staring at my maroon colored socks and grinning from ear to ear cause he knew later he’d be removing those silly socks!)
Was indeed an excellent ending to a wonderful Wednesday! I need another fix of live music again soon!

The band is on hiatus 2 years ago

They’ve been that way for weeks apparently. They are on medical hiatus till future notice. The bass player played too hard on a play thing and tore the tendons in his shoulder. Silly man! Boys will be boys though, regardless their age. And ain’t too many big boys that can turn down the opportunity to play with a big toy that they can ride. Don’t tip your hog over in the parking lot. So until the bass player gets a well shoulder we won’t be hearing any live music from the band I’m afraid.
I’ll be waiting anxiously for the next performance.

Live music on a Friday 2 years ago

My favorite players dont have a name for their band. They keep changing it. I just call them the band. They played outside this Friday night as opposed to playing in the shed. They were in competition with Taylor Swift and Jack Ingram at the county fair just a few blocks from the shed! Their crowd wasn’t near as big as the fair crowd was but we were all just as enthusiastic about the music we heard.
I enjoyed the music and the company.

Live music two nights in a row! 2 years ago

I listened to my guy friends practice on Friday night. And then on Saturday night, I went to P-burg to the grand opening of the Branding Iron II Bar.
I can’t compare the two bands heard in two days time cause I am a bit prejudiced where the band of friends is concerned. The band at the bar, whose name I never caught, was a two member band with a canned music to fill in for the missing keyboards and drums. They were pretty good. Kept the crowd out there moving. But my friend band, I have seen them in action with a dancefloor in sight and they would have had that bar ROCKING like none other. They weren’t at the bar though. So I enjoyed the canned music and listened with indifference. The girl singer could really belt out the words! She was into her craft! Ain’t no doubt about that! I think the fella who plucked the guitar was her husband. He sang as well, but not as well as she did! They played a variety of genres. Country seemed to dominate but that was a good thing as the bar was filled with cowboys!
I am going to suggest to my friend band that they acquire a gig at this new bar. They need some gigs. Lord knows they have practiced enough to know their material. If they stay away from the booze while they’re preforming, they do a right fine job of playing music. They do a right fine job when they do hit the booze too, but they seem to last longer if they stay away from it.
I’m glad I went. STayed out till 3:30 in the morning and slept in this morning. Yep, it’s been a great two days running simply cause of all the music I’ve absorbed into me!

It has been five weeks since I had a fix 2 years ago

of music, that is. The band was rocking last night! I don’t think they have had but one practice in five weeks time. Their instruments were in time, their voices in tune and they were into the music heavy last night.
I enjoyed the company and the tunes! Thanks guys!

A Music Fix Extraordinaire 2 years ago

That is what the night turned out to be.
I haven’t been to town to listen to the band play for so very long. It was an excellent night from the time I walked into the front door till hours later when I walked around the house, through the front yard, got into my van and drove off to home.
The boys were rockin’ tonight!!! BS had his bass strapped on tight, plucking those strings for all they were worth, singing like an angel here on earth! CG had the strings on his guitar rolling an’ blowing an’ rockin’ the walls. His voice was on fire to ease up the chill and we sat in our chairs oh so still.
RG hit the drums with a rhythum we could use and we hope the band will soon have good news in the form a gig at the bar downtown where we manniquins will dance to the beat of our men.
There was much laughter in the halls there at home, much joy shared from friends we all know. Dogs romped in the side yard, girls sat in their chairs while big boys blew kisses we couldn’t see and took away all misery.
I was there for at least five hours. When darkness fell under a cloudy sky, that’s when the boys got busy to fly. Song after song they sung out their hearts while most us sat apart from the band inside the shed, playing music that went to all of our heads!
And when it come time to say goodnight, I knew in the morning I’d see sunlight and realize that tomorrow will come when you spend an evening with those you love.
It was a fabulous evening in all aspects!

A stranger becomes a twin 2 years ago

CG and I went to p-ville to listen to a band couple weekends ago. Country music…kinda kareoke style. A tall blond with snug fitting britches, an excellent voice and little short balding guy with jet black hair singing harmony, playing the guitar.
CG wasn’t much impressed. I thought they sounded pretty good. CG and I have branches on the music tree that are far, far from one another. He dislikes country music. He plays it with the band when it’s demanded of him, but he don’t like it.
We sat at the bar watching Bull Riding and Fishing on the two wall hung TVs behind the bar. No sound. Just that country music coming in from outback where the band was set up. CG drinking buttershots and milk. Me, nursing a rum and coke.
The first time we ventured out the back door to get a look at the band I could have sworn that man was my brother in law, T! I seen my sister the next day and asked her if she knew about T’s secret life! lol
He’s really an antiques dealer and probably doesn’t know the first thing about singing or playing the guitar. It was terribly funny cause L is so easy to fustrate.
It was a fix of music but the fix of moving my body, getting into the music…that didn’t happen. CG ain’t a dancer. He’s a guitarist/drummer. He’s an excellent friend. I had a great time when we went.
I don’t know what has become of music in the shed on Friday nights. It seems to have disappeared without a trace. I miss my Friday night music fixes.
