Actually I already wanna give up on this goal… adding the lyrics how silly am I? And it’s eating away on my sweet time, too. I’m nowhere near finished only half through!
How I did it: My ipod broke, so since i was having to buy a new one, i figured i go through my songs and put the correct artist, song titles etc. down for everything and get the album artwork for them all. It took me a week to get it done, i have close to 7000 songs. Read how I did it…
How I did it: I went on a thanksgiving road trip to Iowa and had some time on my hands to actually go through many of my 2500 songs and delete stuff like there was no tomorrow. I'm running lean at about 1900 songs. I know I could stand to lose at least another couple hundred, but I'm pretty happy for the time being. Read how I did it…

Dang… I’ve spent almost a whole day and I’m yet to reach the point where I can say I’m close to finish with this. It’s really tiring. Hopefully my iPod will thank me. Besides, stupid headphones are broken, one side’s all loud and the other’s almost not hearable. Either it’s my ears or those headphones only lasted five months…

My iTunes is in an outstanding condition already, even though I’ve tons of songs, BUT there’s one thing that I yet have to do and it will take an horrendous amount of time:
I will add all the songtexts, as long as I can find them somewhere on the internet. Even those songs that I downloaded from iTunes don’t come with songtexts, how mean is that?
enterlists has figured out this site!
I need to clean out my music collection and then add correct labels and album art to the remaining songs.
Started doing this last night! Got a brand-spanking new computer and loaded my entire iPod onto it (that’s illegal, I might add, which is dumb) and started with the duplicates. I have 2 days of just duplicate songs…I have to listen to snippets of every. last. one. because sometimes they’re live versions or slightly different or remixes or whatever. I’m up to the letter D.
I’m crossing this off my list. I’ve done a considerable amount of work on this so far. I’ve deleted songs I didn’t want and downloaded music into my ipod.
At least there will be music though. I have 24,395 songs… only half have artwork. Lots of duplicates and lots of crap, that I want to save, but put in a separate folder that iTunes wont recognize… Some of the duplicates are not exact, some skip when the others dont… have a lot of music from friends and converted vinyl. also want to just have mp3 format… no wma files taking up extra space… Then I’ll need to organize and format my photos properly for my ipod… maybe I’ll take it one letter at a time… starting with sometime easy though… like “Q”
I have an 80 gig iPod and even more on my laptop.
I don’t download music. Not because I’m a good person (I’m not) but because viruses keep eating my computer and it’s not worth the hassle. I get my music through another illegal manner. I put other people’s entire libraries on my iPod then use iDump to put it on my computer. It works great (I do buy songs I really want and no one else has off of iTunes) but as a result I have a ZILLION multiple songs, misspelled (or just plain wrong) names and titles, little cover art…its a mess. God, with so much music this is SUCH an undertaking but I’m comitting myself to it.
I created a smart playlist called “bugs” in which all songs rated with 1 star end up automatically. Then I went through and gave a 1 star rating to each song that was messed up, or actually a few songs that somehow got combined into one file.
Using the starting and ending time play options and then converting into AAC, I was able to create new separate files.
I’ve made quite a lot of progress in just one day of getting serious about organizing iTunes. It also makes me feel pretty awesome. Today I hope to at least organize everything into artists and at least get cover art for each artist if I can’t organize everything into separate albums.
Today I got through album art for half of the S artists, but then discovered some songs are labeled “Track 1”, “Track 2”, etc and I have no clue what the album is. Eventually I’ll have to listen to each song, google the lyrics and rename everything.

“Is there any way you can have a separate directory that iTunes refers to, without copying files into iTunes library folders?”
