    valentines 2 years ago

So this weekend my husband gave me the biggest surprise I’ve ever gotten from him. He got us a really nice themed room at a hotel, he had been planning it for weeks and I had no idea! And I’m usually really good at figuring things out, I feel so silly, but I’m glad I didn’t figure it out, haha.

He had already taken me out for Valentines Day to throw me off. He planned the hotel for the weekend because he had that Saturday off and usually doesn’t. I was going to make plans for that Friday night with some friends, and felt bad because I couldn’t get a hold of them while I was at the hotel to tell them where I was. My phone wasn’t charged and I had to turn it off, not having memorized any numbers.

He tricked me by telling me a couple of our friends had a room there and we were gonna go swimming with them at the hotel so all I have was a swimsuit and nothing else! He told me after a couple hours of swimming that he had gotten us a room and I didn’t even believe him at first, but he wasn’t kidding this time.

Anyway, it was a pleasant surprise, and we had a wonderful time. We are going back for our anniversary in May :)

My deceased husband was a hopeless romantic~ 3 years ago

When we were dating I was hesitant to make any commitments to anyone other than my sons. I had been married most of my adult life and that relationship ended in divorce so I was being very cautious.

I met my 2nd husband at a 4th of July party watching fireworks on top of the Mallick Towers in Fort Worth in 1985. The party retired to a nearby neighborhood bar called the Hide Away. I was there with a girlfriend and when we were ready to go my future husband went to give me a kiss – I politely declined and told him I don’t kiss strangers – so I gave him a hug…I have always been a hugger.

He started calling me to go out. Finally I agreed. He was really persistent. We had many lovely dates and he asked me to go to New Orleans with him. Again, I declined.

One day he asked me out to dinner the next evening. It was a Thursday night so I usually didn’t go out because of work. He insisted that I would be home early so I agreed to dinner.

We drove up to a popular upscale restuarant on the near west side and were greeted at the door by the owner. She gave him a big hug and led us to a far dining room where the fireplace and candles were lit and the lights were dimmed…no one else was in the dining room. A waiter stood in the corner and quietly came to pur our wine that was set up at the table. Soon the chef came out to take our order.

As it turned out he had rented the entire dining room for the evening just for us…

He had a way of making me feel like a Princess.

We were married January 17, 1987.
