Rilke - Quote on Becoming 20 months ago

“I feel it now: there’s a power in me to grasp and give shape to my world I know that nothing has ever been real without my beholding it. All becoming has need me.”

Rainer Maria Rilke

This is how I feel as an artist – that I can give shape to my workd and then share that shape, that form, with others, who may not know this shape, this form… yet.

More of that call from the Divine, “Julie, my love, you are a bridge.”

Mmmmm Hmmmmm

Rilke - Quote on Love 20 months ago

“For one human being to love another; that is perhaps the most difficult of all our tasks, the ultimate, the last test and proof, the work for which all other work is but preparation.”

Rainer Maria Rilke

I pray my children know this sort of love.

I ordered a book 20 months ago

for my Dad and decided to get Letters to a Young Poet for myself. People suggested that I read it years ago, and I figure now is a good time.

One of these days when there’s nothing going on I’m going to devote some time to it. It doesn’t seem like the kind of book a person can read flippantly, and I’ll treat myself when I can.

Didn’t realise I’d forgotten to mark this one off! I’ve yet to buy the books I want, but I’ve read a fair bit online so I think I can call this done; the books aren’t urgent so I’ll pick them up whenever I come across them.

Thanks to a link 2 years ago

posted by Silly Drowa, I’ve discovered a website with a large selection of Rilke’s poetry and prose. I’ve had a quick browse, but of course reading it in between working is not doing it any justice at all. I’m really looking forward to reading them slowly in peace and quiet at home.

A beautiful writer! The first piece of his I read was To Music, when my best friend said it was his favourite piece. Then I googled him and read all the poetry by him I could find. Exposed on the Mountains of the Heart is one of my favourites, as is Love Song..and well they’re all bloody good. I think whichever one you identify with most closely is likely going to be your favourite!

I know very little about this author 3 years ago

except that I’ve loved every quote I’ve ever read. If anyone has any recommendations for a good place to start, please let me know!
