How to have dinner at The French Laundry
How I did it: We were trying on and off for years to get a reservation, to no avail. Tried one day on Opentable earlier this year, to find a table for two at an early dinner seating within the month!
Lessons & tips: Keep trying! Apparently reservations are freeing up more because of the economy. You need to be flexible about the date and time, and open to whatever time slots free up. Also try weekday lunches same day, they tend to have more cancellations.

I told myself once I learned French I would treat myself to dinner here. The french is coming along slowly, though.
Well, I think Deepak Chopra would be proud. I have had this on my list for over a year now, put the intention out there and just let it be in the background, not becoming too attached. And in true manifesting fashion, a good friend just told me she received a gift certificate to the French Laundry and would like me to accompany her. Yippee Yi Yay!
Just what Anthony Bourdain said: “I can die now because there is nothing left to do.”
It was a completely amazing experience. To paraphrase Ferris Bueller: If you have the means, I highly recommend checking it out.
An absolutely flawlessly prepared and presented dinner! Highly recommended – and worth the effort to score the highly elusive reservations!
One thing I have to say, the service is impeccable. My sister was afraid that we might not be treated as well as other patrons because the three of us that went don’t fit the standard bill of rich, old white people. The staff however were more than welcoming and made us feel oh so comfortable.
Ok, now on to the food. Oh my god. The salmon tartar amuse was heavenly and the Oysters and Pearls are genius. The high point was a scallop with truffles and the foie course. Ugggh they had to roll me out of there. For a good hour or so after I could feel the all the fat I consumed still lingering in my pores…and it felt so good. I would give anything to have another chocolate and caramel covered macadamia nut. I have to say though that there were a few dishes that left me slightly less than amazed. The desserts, though delicious, weren’t tremendously creative and a course or two were simply good, not fantastic.
Regardless, it was a wonderful experience (and at that price tag a once or twice in a lifetime experience) and I’m still giddy as a schoolgirl about having gone.

I actually dont want to do it anymore (still would be nice ;) )
I am fumbling about for appropriate adjectives and finding none sufficient.
Some highlights:
– The wine. To be frank, I am typically pretty fucking indifferent about wines. I took some valuable advice and deferred entirely to the sommelier. Oh my.
– Overheard snippets of conversation. For example: “It smells truffly in here.”, and “I could make this at home.” “No honey. No you most certainly could not.”
– Oh, right! The food. It was, you know. Edible. Heh.
The meal ended up being about 4 hours long, most of which I spent on the verge of tears.
