I had intense feelings for a friend of mine for over three years, and just recently achieved closure from him. My biggest regret to date was never telling him how I honestly felt. They were hinted via flirtation, late-night conversations and love songs. During that time, I did not feel like it was necessary to sit him down, look him in the eye and tell him that I thought I was falling for him. This was wholly due to the fact that I didn’t want to lose his friendship. He was one of few people I trusted in high school, and I honestly felt like the idea that he appreciated me the way he did was enough for my satisfaction. Getting over him came with time, when I realized that he wasn’t the same person anymore.
I am not lonely, nor searching for the perfect man currently. But when real love comes along, I cannot afford for it to slip right through my hands.
