How to host my own radio show
How I did it: I volunteered at a community radio station. After being approved for training, I spent a month training. It was really nerve-wracking, especially when I got to do my hot seat, which is the first show you do without your mentor's help before you're approved to be a host. I worked hard, had lots of fun and actually landed my own weekly show!
Lessons & tips: If you think you can't do it, you're probably right. It takes confidence and a winning personality to get a spot on a radio station's docket.
Resources: Check out your local and community radio stations. Occasionally, they'll be looking for new trainees!

versailles is planning my trip to the Highlands
Throughout the 2006 – 2007 year, I hosted my own radio show for my college campus. Between September and June, I hosted a indie music show (Music for the Masses) and in the summer I hosted a specialty show featuring the best of proto-punk and glam (All Tomorrow’s Parties). It was nerve wrecking at first, but I did feel more confident after the first few weeks!
More than that, I was able to connect my local community with some great, underappreciated music.
Back at college, I had a couple shows with some friends. Listening to TBTL has really got me jonesing to host my own show again. Anne Lo makes fun of me because I like putting sound fx and drops into everyday conversation – I think it’ll keep happening until I get a show again. Then it will probably only get worse.
Maybe once I get to be a real person after law school, I could find the time to do a weekly show for a couple hours on a college station or a public radio station (WAMU?).
