And organizing is underway. At the rate we are going, we should finish by the end of October. If not by then, soon after but defintely before Thanksgiving.
How to build a home library
How I did it: IKEA, Librarything.com, my fellow book lover husband and time. We brought all our books into our family room and layed them in piles by category so that we could give the proper space to each category with a little extra for growing room. It was a pain and took weeks with books all over the place but once they were in stacks by subject, it didn't take long to shelve them.
Lessons & tips: Have a plan.
Resources: IKEA Billy shelves and extensions (lots of them) and we've had several people comment on our "custom" shelving. Shhhh. They'll never know. Also Librarything.com to catalog and organize them and my fellow book lover husband.

Shelves are up but we need some more extensions. We still need to attach them to the wall and I still need to decide how to organize and catalog them. I’m thinking we will start this weekend to actually pull books from every room of the house and stack them according to subject. I can’t wait!
We are going to pick up a load of shelving units today! I’m so excited!
Now there’s just the financing aspect to consider. I’ve also set up an account on Library Thing (very cool website). I’m not 100% sold on this as the way to go to catalog our books. I’m looking into system’s that are not entirely online. In the meantime, this is a fun website.
