Alright I’m off to eat every cheese in the world. At my current estimate this should take 6 years. The major contenders being 750 cheeses in France, Italy’s 500, and England is being a bit mad to say they have 700 but what the hey, I’ll try ‘em.

AHHH the power of cheese.. 2 years ago

I really like cheese…alot. Its not healthy to like cheese this much. I really like trying new cheeses and thats pretty much all you can say about cheese.

Okay. I’ve got to come up with some sort of scheme for figuring out when I’ve attained this goal. Also, I’m a vegetarian, so that may limit my options. The list I’ve come up with is far from comprehensive, but is based on the Cheese Shop sketch from Monty Python, plus whatever else I could think up off the top of my head.

    Cheeses:

    Bergenost .
    Swiss .
    Havarti .
    Bleu
    American .
    Provolone .
    Colby .
    Farmer .
    Muenster .
    Monterey Jack .

    Red Leicester
    Tilsit
    Caerphilly
    Bel
    Red Windsor
    Stilton
    Ementhal
    Gruyere .
    Norwegian Jarlsburg
    Lipta
    Lancashire
    White Stilton
    Danish Brew
    Cheshire
    Dorset Bluveny
    Brie .
    Rocquefort
    Pol le Veq
    Port Salut
    Savoy Aire
    Saint Paulin
    Carrier le Iest
    Bres Bleu
    Bruson
    Camembert
    Gouda .
    Edam
    Case Ness
    Smoked Austrian
    Japanese Sage Darby
    Wensleydale
    Greek Feta .
    Gorgonzola
    Parmesan .
    Mozarella .
    Paper Cramer
    Danish Bimbo
    Czech sheep’s milk
    Venezuelan beaver cheese
    Cheddar .
    Hillchester
    Limburger

To check off, I had to have eaten it and remembered distinctly what it tasted like. So bleu cheese, while I have it in salad dressing all the time, didn’t really count.

Two New Cheeses and Fruit for Dinner 3 years ago

And one of the joys of being single…I can eat cheese and fruit for dinner if I want and nobody complains, no one feels guilty.

I went to Maxwell’s Market for the first time today hoping to be overwhelmed by the choices of cheese. Maxwells is a small market that appers (from the outside) to have a large variety of rare and imported foods. It was disappointing, to say the least. I found two cheeses that I haven’t tried: Edam and Smoked ButterKase. All of the cheese that they sell (and that’s not a lot) are Boar’s Head brand. So, I continued my shopping at The Nice Brookshire’s, which is where I normally shop. Now that I’ve read the list of cheese, and know a little bit more about what I am looking for, I found many cheeses that I haven’t tried, and I was really surprised on their selection. For the time being, I chose an English Stilton and Fromage des Pyrenees.

For dinner I had some of the Edam. I like the texture, almost as if it’s between a semi-soft and medium-soft cheese, it’s a little chewy. It has a taste similar to a medium cheddar, but is a little creamier. I would say it’s yummy, but given my love for cheese, I think that goes without saying.

I also had some of the Fromage des Pyrenees. This is a semi-soft cheese, but not as soft as brie. It is very creamy and has a tangy aftertaste. It went exceptionally well with the black seedless grapes (as I don’t really know what I’m doing when it comes to what to eat these cheeses with, I was delightfully surprised).

Although I was so happy to find all of the cheese choices at Brookshire’s, it made me miss shopping at Whole Foods. Not only do they have an amazing cheese selection, but they are always getting new stuff in, and the staff are so excellent at helping you pick something out, and what is good to eat with it.

Anyway, 2 down and I haven’t even counted how many more to go!

    Cheese Heaven 3 years ago

I made a new pen-pal in Cork, Ireland, and found this as I was reading about the city. Perhaps I can eat some new cheeses and meet someone on my 43 people list at the same time!!!

31 Cheeses So Far 3 years ago

Using the Alphabetical Listing of Cheeses (ALC) (earlier entry), I made a Cheeses I’ve Eaten: http://www.listofbests.com/list/13601 list ( don’t know why the link isn’t working properly…sorry.

I have eaten two cheeses that are not on in the ALC…the Drunken Goat and Humbolt Fog. I looked them up to make sure they weren’t any type cheese, like a stilton or gouda. They are just catagorized as goat cheese, so I added them to my list.

I’m surprised that I have already eaten as many different types of cheese. Perhaps this goal is a little more realistic, but I still want to backpack across France just to eat cheese (and drink wine).

Also, “madamwitty”: double check the ALC, because I would bet that there are cheeses listed there that you may not have thought of for your list (cottage and cream). I was surprised at some of the things they had listed (string).

Oh, I think this is going to be a very hard goal to accomplish.
