I’m still trying to convince my mom to let me do this. It’s a simple thing, and I think it would add to the room a lot, since one wall is blank except for two pictures. I’ll see…

I really wanna do this on one of my walls in my room. They’re grey so I think I t would look really awesome in there. I also should be able to convince my mom to let me. It would be really cool to have, and my own memorial to Elliott Smith.

so I decided... 3 years ago

my room was lacking something… I could have tried to find an old elliott smith poster on ebay, but not many exist, and I’ve always wanted to paint something (yet never have)

I decided to paint the solutions wall mural (or at least the part on the album cover for Elliott’s Figure 8 album) on my wall where I hang one of my guitars. My room is already a light greyish blue, so I picked out a dark dark blue/black for the majority of the wavy stripes, and the “red” stripe is going to be a little bit lighter tone of blueish gray.

I made a transparency of the image of the album cover and projected it onto my wall using a projector I borrowed from my mom’s school. I don’t think we were supposed to take it, but she was up for it and helped me out. I traced what I could from the projection and freehanded the missing parts which where covered up by Elliott and the parts which were cut off from the image.

I’m now painting it on and loving the experience. I just turn up the music (in the beginning I tried to only listen to ES, but failed and ended up listening to Built to Spill for a majority of the time last night) and I get to be away from everything. It’s one of the most relaxing things I’ve ever done. (Even though I keep fucking it up, but I think it looks pretty good so far.)

Although it’s just a painting of a painting that Elliott stood in front of one day to have his photo taken, it means a lot more than that to me.
