I just booked a trip to Hawaii, but that’s okay. I love Hawaii.

But with the stock market the way it is I am thinking this way wait until 2010!!
I’ve started looking into this… a beach may be in my future! :)
Elderbear is subverting the dominant paradigm. kickn' back ...
(but not with her in it.)
My old job used to take me to Puerto Rico with great regularity, doing work at the Arecibo Observatory. I’ve slept many times in the bed where Jody and Matthew McConahey had their love scene.
I’ve been thinking about The Bahamas. I’m not sure why (well, good easy diving I am told.) I have a family trip planned but that’s not the same as a vacation. During the cold months it helps to have something to look forward too.
I will hopefully be doing this sometime next year with one of my friends from work. We’re starting to look around online and at books to figure out where we want to go.
A Trip to the Beach is a book about a couple moving to Anguilla and opening a resturant. Very funny and touching book that made me long for warmth and rummy drinks.
It was I think the best vacation I have ever had. I want to go back and visit some other island sometime.
I visited Provodenciales, Turks and Caicos for two weeks. It was the best vacation I have ever had!
Many of us miss the charm of being in Latin America but can’t afford to really go back to our mother lands. Well…$800 will buy you a great time in Puerto Rico.
If you are in San Juan, I recommend staying at El Covento; a 300 year old carmelite convent in the heart of Viejo San Juan. From there you can walk anywhere you want around there, eat, shop. Don’t eat at the hotel (very pricy); rather, walk around the block and you’ll find plenty of good food at reasonable prices. Also, make it a priority to try coquito (it has replaced eggnog as the winter drink, he he) and bring back a few bottles of Don Q (the local rum; Bacardi sucks).
Ask for a guided tour of Viejo San Juan. My favorite guide was a guy that El Convento hooked me up with: it was a walking tour of the area, thousands of times better than a van, and worth every penny (I think it was $45 for 2-3 hours).
Remember that when you travel, your attitude stays at home.
