go blackberry picking

We did this yesterday! Although it was more of a sweet indulgence than a gathering. Next time, I’m bringing one of those 4 litre ice-cream pails like mom used to. Mmmmmmn… vivid stovetop jam stirring flashbacks from my youth, rich smells, visions of pie a la mode…

I remember doing this a lot as a child while on picnics with my family. Stained fingers, lips, tongue and later blackberry pie with lots of cream.

...they grow like weeds. It isn’t difficult to fill up a bucket during the right time of year. When I was super-broke, I used to trade blackberries that I picked for tacos from a taco stand that was usually set up on Division.

definitely!!! Wicked thorns, though. Planting bushes again next spring.

One of my daughters loves to do this with me every August when the berries get ripe. I pick them and she puts them in the basket… well… some of them go in the basket. The rest of them, just, disappear! I wonder where they went… ;-)

but the seeds always stick in my molars.

a patch of blackberries that I refuse to cut down near our dam. Every year we pick them and make jam, pies and of course eat an awful lot with icecream…...... divine!!!!

and so sometimes are poisoned and you can’t pick them, so you have to be careful about where you do it. We picked all the blackberries on our friend’s property before she did anything to them. We made blackberry pie. Yuuuuuuuuuuuuuum!

Where I used to live, my neighbor had grandkids who would visit and we all became great friends. In the summer we would all go and pick blackberries. We’d eat a lot of them, but we just had so much fun out there talking and having a great time doing it.

I am lucky enough in that the garden I help out in, and have for some years now, is prime for good blackberries, and they’re in season now and taste wonderful. Just had a delicious dessert with some of them plus orange/white chocolate sauce on vanilla ice cream. Perfect…
