English as a 1st language

I am a Hindu American, born in the U.S. and to parents born and raised in India. As they were trying to better their knowledge of the English language, it didn’t help my grasp of the Hindu language. When grandparents would come, it would pick up, and same for when we traveled to India. However, since this was permanent, my Hindi is not fluent by any means. I can get by when I need to, but I’d like to do more than just get by. I’d like to completely understand the jokes, movies and songs, rather than just piecing together what I do know to form what they are saying.
