Hah! When looking at this goal, I saw that I posted an entry two years ago. That would have been a MAJOR mail purge at the time; I had years worth of mail that I hadn’t gone through. Oops.
I had my sister over yesterday, which meant cleaning the house. So I used that as an opportunity to do another sorting and filing session. The latest build-up of mail has been opened and filed/tossed. Yay! I suppose I could mark this as done, because I did go through the mail, but I’m not going to mark it done until I come up with a consistent method for handling it. In other words, this still needs more work.

I came up with a new rule to help me with this resolution, and I thought it was pretty ingenious, thankyouverymuch:
When I walk in the door, I cannot take my coat off until I have opened and sorted all my mail from that day.
I’m not sure how this will work come summer when there are no more coats, but hopefully by then I’ll already be in the habit and will have crossed this off my list long before.

I finally went through my mail drawer (since I wasn’t really able to actually close it anymore) and filed the important papers and recycled the rest. It was a little ridiculous how quickly I was able to do it. Now if I can just start doing this every day before it has a chance to pile up…
Hooray for getting things done!

I made good progress on this goal over the weekend. I have a plastic box full of old mail, and have started working my way through it. My first step was to simply open everything and toss the envelopes/unneeded inserts, to reduce the size of the pile. I then started sorting through it. Some of the mail has been filed already! Yay! There’s still a LOT to do, but I’m happy I’ve started working on this goal.
