be closer to my family

I think in order for me to be closer to my immediate family I need to move out. I just don’t feel like I can really be myself, or figure out who I really am, while I’m living here. I find that I try to avoid certain situations by altering my actions or by just keeping quiet. I think I would be able to be braver about who I am and probably appreciate our time together more if I wasn’t around them all the time.

Went to the movies with my parents yesterday. I was supposed to go shopping with my mom afterwards but I ran into a friend of mine and we went to get dinner. So now I’m hoping that can do our shopping today.

It’s not much but at least we are spending more time together.

We had a BBQ today and although we didn’t have a whole lot of family here a few people still showed up. It was nice to just sit around and talk for a while. Then later me and my mom went out shopping. We haven’t spent a whole day shopping in so long.

All around it was a really good day spent with family. Hope to have more of this.

I’ve come to the conclusion that my family members are not ever going to be my best buds. We get along for the most part and we love eachother. At this point I’m not going to ask more than that from them or myself.

Since I live far away from my family phone contact is important. I’ve been doing pretty good with this. I’ve spoken to both of my sisters in the past couple days and I talk to my mom a few times a week.

I haven’t seen my extended family for ages – not for any particular reason, I’m just really bad at keeping in touch with people. Anyway, over the weekend I contacted my cousin, and we’re gonna meet up the next time I’m home =) x

I’ve lost a grandparent from both sides of the family in 7 months. It really makes me appreciate who is still here with me, and I’d like to know more about these people before they or I go.

This december I was able to really connect more with my neice who is 7. I took the time to play with her and bake cookies and such. Her mom asked me if I would help with her girl scout troop next year, which I am really considering doing.

Me and my family get along I just don’t feel that we are as close as we could be. Most of my immediate family lives in the same city so this should be easy right? But it seems like we only get together for the holidays…rarely any other time. So we are all on our best behavior and it doesn’t seem real. I don’t feel like we allow each other to see how we really are.

I live with my parents so I see them all the time but it doesn’t seem like quality time. I think that I am old enough now that we can have a real relationship but where to start?

I’m creating a web site for my brothers and sister and other family members to keep us coordinated.
