be closer to my family

Haha. I want to be closer to my family. I already know I’m going to give up on this one. If they don’t want you closer it’s hard to get there right. So anyway I wrote my brother a letter today. He’s locked up, he’ll appreciate it. :)

I called my mom in Harare today. Sometimes things get so hectic at work i forget to call. Im feeling much better about myself! Next is my sister in Bulawayo.

I visited my cousin Elly this weekend and on Wednesday I will go to my other cousin Eva for the evening and stay there. In general I am doing quite well on this goal: I am visiting my grandmum at least every month & my aunt and uncle are inviting me regulary for birthdays and holidays. I am grateful for that. This goal makes my life better and makes me satisfied, yet it will stay on this list because it is something I have to remind myself of doing. Family is important. Especially since my dear parents have passed away. This picture was taken this summer on a cousins bbq-party organised by Elly.

Living with my sister and her family has been so great. Yesterday we had an awesome day together in the park!!

I called my Uncle today, This week I want to call my Dad, my Mom and one of my cousins.

The only time im close with my family, is when were all
sitting down in front of the t.v eating dinner. I would
love to have conversations with my family, without it leading
to a arguement about money or who broke what the day before.

I think in order for me to be closer to my immediate family I need to move out. I just don’t feel like I can really be myself, or figure out who I really am, while I’m living here. I find that I try to avoid certain situations by altering my actions or by just keeping quiet. I think I would be able to be braver about who I am and probably appreciate our time together more if I wasn’t around them all the time.

Went to the movies with my parents yesterday. I was supposed to go shopping with my mom afterwards but I ran into a friend of mine and we went to get dinner. So now I’m hoping that can do our shopping today.

It’s not much but at least we are spending more time together.

We had a BBQ today and although we didn’t have a whole lot of family here a few people still showed up. It was nice to just sit around and talk for a while. Then later me and my mom went out shopping. We haven’t spent a whole day shopping in so long.

All around it was a really good day spent with family. Hope to have more of this.

I’ve come to the conclusion that my family members are not ever going to be my best buds. We get along for the most part and we love eachother. At this point I’m not going to ask more than that from them or myself.
