sapphire_mermaidday seven.....oooooops

so….

i think i blew it today

day off work,
and my only chance to shop for a while, which meant i of course had to buy 2 new lip glosses to replace my already-ran out one, which then led to me buying 2 singulat champagne truffles cause they looked so tasty [blew the diet as well],
and then to top it all off i found an excellent deal on a second hand ipod which was in perfect condition, and ohhh…decided to be spontaneous

but in a way i was SAVING money by buying everything i bought either second hand or from the market, so kudos for learning how to be more practical…

just a shame i ruined the 7th day

but, im still saying i did it, because…i practically did….

really worthwhile| 4 years ago

sapphire_mermaidday six

this was a few too many days ago for me to remember exactly how the day went, but i do know that i managed to resist buying anything, and spent nothing all day!

it really is liberating knowing that i actually have extreme control about the money in my life, and i don’t need to go spending money on endless things that really i a] dont need or b] could find a cheaper alternative for 4 years ago

sapphire_mermaidyesterday [day five]

i think im getting good at this!
i really needed to buy glue last night, but just as i was about to fly out of the house to buy some, i stopped myself….whats a few more days to wait for glue?!
hopefully today can be as money free as the last 4 and then after tomorrow itll be done! 4 years ago

sapphire_mermaidyesterday [day four]

once again, i didnt spend a penny!
i printed out photos from home instead of getting them developed in a store, and i watched an old classic movie on my TV set rather than feeling the need to go either to the cinema, or to a movie store to rent a film. i drank [lots – ooops] of my own coffee and resisted starbucks pull on me, and went to bed feeling very full of unspentedness :]

today i really want to go into town….but i don’t quite know how to make it there and resist spending any money…hmmm 4 years ago

sapphire_mermaidtoday [day three]

wohooo!
no money spent :]

and i was only at work for 6 of those hours to distract me from spendings :]
[sssshhh don’t mention that its a sunday and nothings open past 4, when i didnt leave until 6..]

the call will come tomorrow when i have the entire day of work, and its a monday
exercise and home entertainment anyone?!

feeling good about myself though, so lets hope it sticks 4 years ago

sapphire_mermaidyesterday [day two]

ok, so not quite as sucessful as you may have hoped for…
in all fairness, all i bought was a bus ticket, because the bus that i have the weekly ticket for didnt come, and i had to get to work somehow on time…
and it was only £1.50, which is technically less than i found yesterday, so maybe thats ok and doesnt really count…
still, i didnt buy anything else so im hoping im getting a handle on unnecessary spending!
heres to a 3rd good day today… 4 years ago

sapphire_mermaidyesterday [day one]

today i found it easy to not buy a single thing….then again, that might just be because i was at work until 11pm, so i didnt really have an opportunity. still, the start of an achievement :] i even found £1.60 in the pub, so i made money! here’s to a repeat performance today :] 4 years ago

sapphire_mermaidwill i be able to survive?!

ive noticed more and more recently, that even without having the money to do so, i spend and spend and spend on silly little things that all add up.
and seeing as this website seems to instill in me some level of inspiration, i think i might just give this ago.
i may have to buy my bus ticket before the weeks out so that i can get to work, but other than that, i am aiming to stay expense free….
lets see how this goes, starting tomorrow….

wish me luck! 4 years ago

DesI do this regularly

But not necessarily intentionally. Very often I just don’t go into a store for a week at a time. Especially when I get busy. And since I’m not a spender on convenience items, even things that cost small amounts, it just isn’t an issue. 5 years ago

baddinsInteresting Experiment

My car stayed much cleaner because there weren’t any coffee cups rattling around or donut tissue bags crumpled up on the floor. I still haven’t purchased anything—I’m way more in check as far as impulse spending goes.

This experiment worked. I’m not sure I’ll do a buy nothing month, yet, because the saddest thing about this week was missing a huge rummage sale at Magnuson Park. I love rummage sales and don’t think I could live without them. 5 years ago

baddinsDay Four

This is buy nothing week is way too easy. My tank is still miraculously on F. I want donuts less than I did on monday. I don’t go into stores. I sew everyday at home which is what I should be doing anyway.

Chadwick made the point that perhaps I want to suffer more from not buying stuff and he may be right because I’m electing May buy nothing month. Most of the same rules will apply. The major difference will be that I am allowed to pay all of my regular bills (including rent) and use money to buy one tank of gas per week. No clothes, no groceries, I’ll be entertaining myself for the month because no movies, no drinks at the cuff—nothing.

This seems scarier than a week… but I think it’ll be really cool to prove to myself that I can live with less. 5 years ago

baddinsDay Three

Buying nothing is the newest cool thing for me. I don’t really need to buy anything. I mildly miss donnut and coffee breaks but I honestly don’t think my ass is sorry I’m skipping them. My gas tank is miraculously still on ‘F’—it must be a buy nothing week miracle. Thanks God! 5 years ago

baddinsDay Two

I don’t even care about buying stuff. If I don’t allow it to be an option then it is kind of like out-of-sight out-of-mind.

So far, some unexpected results of buy nothing week include: driving slower (I usually gun it at yellow lights, etc. but I’ve cut all that out due to my fear of using up more gas than I can “afford” this week), lots of sewing getting done (my ebay surfing was quite time consuming), and realizing that I can’t really see my boyfriend on the hill because I can’t pay for parking. I hadn’t really thought of those things before the week started.

I freaked out yesterday for a moment when I realized I had left my wallet at home, but then I realized I wouldn’t need it anyway. That was a freeing feeling.

So far, so good. 5 years ago

baddinsDay One

I started buy nothing week today. The first thing I notice is that I am smelling more and tasting less. I miss you vivace coffee. Also, if I were in my regular buying frenzy I would probably pick up some garbage bags today, a new kitchen sponge, and a new bag for my vaccuum cleaner. Whatever. I can go the week using plastic grocery bags, bleaching the sponge, drinking home brewed coffee and not putting vaccuum on my to-do list.

I am scared I will break—gas seems like it will run out and my bike is stylish but not a good ride. On the other hand, I am hopeful this will be some sort of financial break-through allowing me to enter back into my poor bohemian utopia.

I used to be so good at being thrifty. Eating windfall apples in college and trading volunteer work for movies at the independent cinema.

Deprivation feels kind of good and pure and right so far. 5 years ago

baddinsClarify Goals Here

My goal with the buy nothing week is to appreciate what I already have rather than thinking I can satisfy myself consumer style. That being said, no one else can buy me dinner, movie, drinks out, etc. Buy nothing is really having nothing bought. 5 years ago

baddinsCommencement

I’ve chosen the week starting Monday March 13th for this little experiment. If I can do this, I’m choosing May as a buy nothing month. Rent and bills are excluded from this experiement. During the buy nothing week gas isn’t allowed but during the buy nothing month gas is allowed as a work expense.

I’m imagining this is going to make me more sensitive about how I am spending my money. I wonder what the unintended consequences will be. 5 years ago
