My family and I go to Oahu every year, and my husband and I decided to go on a 2 day trip to Maui by ourselves. We left the kids with my mom and dad. We had a great time and I would do it again
How I did it: Well, it was a gift from a boss who couldn't go! A trip of a lifetime! My boyfriend and I were stunned we got to go. We stayed in a beautiful resort but we went a day early and stayed in a shoebox motel and frankly, it doesn't matter WHERE you stay because if you stay inside in Maui you are missing out! Go to Hana. If you can't take hairpin turns then go on a tour. If for no other reason, people whose path you cross who have been will talk about it. But we LOVED driving our rented vehicle (a no-no) up the east side all the way north. VERY, tight corners and turns but the foothills of heaven! Sit on the beach. Rent a kayak and go out into the water. If at ALL possible GO during the whale season. Stop wherever you are, at every single sunset. Go to the more deserted beaches. Go to little beach if you dare (nude beach) no big deal but it was so fun to just lie in the sun! Go to the black sand beach, the red sand beach, it's sooooo gorgeous!!!!
Lessons & tips: Most are above for don't skimp on tours, snorkeling at Black Rock (you can do that yourself. BUY your own snorkel equipment because it's a crap shoot how good your equipment is. SNORKEL your head off!!! There's really only one good luau and I can't recall the name but everyone knows it. Otherwise, don't go. The lesser ones are kinda boring. Don't sleep! BUY MAUI REVEALED. READ IT COVER TO COVER BEFORE YOU GO. IT MAKES ALL THE DIFFERENCE!!!! Check their website JUST before you go. For example, the book said to go to a certain place to snorkel. But the website warned it had just been closed and had a big fine! The book is worth every single penny. Highlight it and take it with you!

I have never been to a more beautiful place in my life. Seriously, it’s magical. Good luck!
Maui was beautiful…snorkeling blew my mind. I have a feeling that this trip changed my life, even though I am not sure how yet.
At the end of February! I am super excited. I am so lucky that I was a nanny, and that the family was so nice, and that they still take me with them on trips.
etherealessence is such a lucky girl!
I remember when I was in my teens and my mom and I had flown to Hawaii together to visit our extended relatives one summer. At that time I had only been to O’ahu, and wanted to check out the other islands so badly. Although our plane’s destination was to O’ahu that day, we ended up flying into Maui and being stuck there for over an hour. I was so sad when the attendants made us stay on the plane the entire time. From then on, I knew I had to see Maui someday!
Almost a decade later I was finally able to experience Maui! The best part was that I got to go with my husband and we had a blast :D We stayed in Kihei with one of his dearest friends, and explored different parts of the island throughout our short visit there.
We can’t wait to go back again sometime!
woodstockdc is being forgiving about all the adverbs.
The trip to Hana was OK but not worth the fuss. You want fun, bike Mt. Haleakela. Nothing like a descent from 10,000+ to sea level on a bike to start the day!
ceesmiles is getting ready to run another 5K race; 5K has become usual run
and I would love to go back and have been looking at volunteer vacations that would take me there. I would like to go and do some biking next time.
Best island. Get the cheapest hotel you can, cuz you won’t be in it. Do the road to Hana and buy the book Maui Revealed. Best guide ever.
