wlake lately has had the attention span of a goldfish

Can I count progress towards this goal if I’ve done none of it? All I’ve done is nag hubby to work on it (however, he is!). No painting yet—still cleaning mold off the walls so it can be dried and primed.

We picked a paint color back in February and bought the paint a few months ago, but haven’t done a thing since. All of the mold needs to be scrubbed off the walls and ceiling and I think the prospect of having to do that is what’s holding us up. Still, we’ve made a decision to start on this next weekend. I’d like to be done with this goal by Thanksgiving—that gives us a month.

I waited three months! 2 months ago

I just kept putting it off even though I had the paint. It looks great.

Paint: purchased. 6 months ago

Forgot primer, though. This will be done within a couple days.

Have done this many times, including stripping wallpaper. All those times you go into the bathroom and think about how you don’t like what you see really do weigh you down- and it’s cheap-and it only takes a day.

Mark me DONE!

Ocean blue with white trim – just add water, bubbles, champagne, a Michael Buble CD… I’ll drift away…

Clean the walls, tape off the ceiling & edges, paint a three-inch border around tape.

Finished!

Instead of painting the bathroom (which my husband says we can’t do right now, because we need to install a ventilation fan—the paint tends to peel due to the bathroom moisture), I’m going to paint the office this weekend. We bought our house 2 1/2 years ago, and the office has remained entirely untouched. It’s the only room in the house we haven’t done a single thing for or to. We haven’t done anything to the bedroom but at least we bought a new bedspread and headboard! The office, on the other hand, looks just as bad as the day we moved in: white walls, hideous homemade curtains from the 1980s with blue and green flowers, and old Levelor blinds. We threw the curtains out today and bought a beautiful shade of pinky-orange paint for the walls called “Firecracker”. It’s a very vivacious, bright color that’s nearly identical to the throw pillows I have in my living room. I have a lot of other things to do this weekend, like bathe and groom one of the dogs and write for my SWP, but I’m eager to get into the office and transform it. The trim will probably have to wait until next weekend. We can’t even paint the walls today because Patrick has to spackle the holes made by nails and by the curtain contraptions that the former owners nailed into the wall. So today, I paint the ceiling and prime all the edges and corners in the room, and tomorrow…I paint! I can’t wait to see what it turns out like! And while I’m waiting for the ceiling to dry, Patrick and I will watch Pay It Forward…

I had the greatest of intentions to do this over Christmas break, but it doesn’t seem to be happening. I want to paint the bathroom a pale green (it would have to be just the right shade so it doesn’t look like puke) and I think it would be a pretty fast job since the bathroom is so small, but I haven’t gotten around to it yet. I’ve still got a few weeks so maybe with Christmas money I’ll tackle this project…

Ugh, now I HAVE to paint! 2 years ago

I decided to do a thorough cleaning of the house, starting with the master bathroom. I’ve been here 3 years, but the house is 11 years old and has never been repainted. I started cleaning the ceiling first, and I was shocked and disgusted to find a lot of black mildew up there. As I came to corners where walls came together, I could see the mold dripped down the wall and caused staining. YUCK! Now I HAVE to paint, even if I thought I could just get away with a good cleaning before. Just sounds like a lot of work, time, and mess. Not happy. Not sure I can do it alone.
