Moving to Portland, Oregon 3 days ago

For almost 7 years I’ve wanted to move to Portland, Oregon. I’ve been working on finishing up college and I had a little set-back with my courses due to the recent death of my younger brother but I’m still pushing through with the plans of my goal. I intend on living in Portland by May 2010. This was the goal of me and my deceased brother, and the reason why we wanted to move there was because of it’s vibrant music scene and a chance to experience the West Coast without the ridiculous costs of living in California.

I plan on moving to Portland Oregon by May 2010. By that time I should have all my college done and be ready to fulfill my dream place. This has been a long lived dream since over 7 years ago, but Ive run into complications with my brother’s death and finishing up college, but soon those goals are appearing to be a reality. One reason I like the idea of Portland is because it’s got this amazing music scene, and I want to do more with music once I get my degree.

I need a new life 2 weeks ago

I’m trying to figure out how to move. I visited in April and fell in love. I’m a chef and the jobs have dried up here in Bloomington, IN. Portland seems like the promised land. I’m liberal minded and I appreciate everything that Portland has done. My first thought of Portland was that it is the city of the future. My first ride on MAX seeing how beautiful the city is… I was giddy. I haven’t been giddy in a while. If anyone can help me I would be extremely appreciative. I’m getting desperate. I’m considering packing up the Volvo and just driving me and Cooper (my 2year old cocker spaniel/son) and just figuring it out when I get there. I’ll pack the tent just in case. Perhaps we’ll live in the car. I don’t know. But I’m running out of options. If anyone reading this is sympathetic and has extra room… I’d be willing to cook, clean, garden, whatever I have to do. I’m not afraid of hard work. I just need a place to land and then start rebuilding my life. Its my hope though, that I can find a job and then a place of my own either another share situation or go solo.

wow, can’t believe May is over…if everything goes as planned I will have completed this goal within 23 days…have a different life in less than a month. I’m extremely nervous, but as someone recently reminded me ~nothing worthwhile is ever easy…

getting close to booking my one way flight…
getting rid of stuff i don’t really need…
to start over in a completely new place, far from “home”
have never done this before…it’s terrifying to me,
leaving my job, apartment and friends for the unknown…
one month left

I visited Portland last year and instantly fell in love with it. Sometimes you just get a good feeling about a place. The people are friendly and the scenery is beautiful…Sure i froze my butt off, but i’ll just get a better coat…hope to get there by the end of June…Good luck to you all!

Vegan Friendly 2 months ago

I heard that portland is one of the most vegan friendly cities and that is cool because I am trying to go vegan.
Also I was watching Bump! and they said that Portland is really queer friendly too and it has a big queer community and that is sweet!

The more I hear about Portland the more I want to live there!!!!
I have never been there but I did drive through it when I was going to Washington it was really beautiful.

Will I like it there? 2 months ago

I have not really explored Portland, I have driven through only. I want to live close to the coast, but I want to live in a bigger city. Anything would be better than the hick town of 5000 people, where I am living now. I am afraid to move alone, but I would regret it if I did not take the chance and try. Will I be able to find an apartment and job? I need to save money. I will keep researching and dreaming of the day I can move.

Oddly enough, i might be giving up on this, at least for now. This is a very strange period in my life, i will soon have no attachments, no obligations, free to go anywhere, do anything.
Portland seems so beautiful but i want to set myself up for success in this next phase (having missed out on it in the last).
So, instead, i am considering moving to NY state, somewhere along the Hudson corridor. I am planning on starting a business. And it will be far easier to launch this, find living quarters and move my 2 Greyhounds and my stuff.
Portland still calls to me, it seems almost mythical. I suspect in another stage of my life, i will go there.
